Typical great Craftsman quality in this trimmer.
I have a craftsman mower and it has been amazing for many years so I was looking at their trimmer. I hear that the more expensive straight shaft trimmers tend to be more reliable but it just wasn't that comfortable compared to the curved shaft so I went with this model. I am glad that I went with this model for a couple reasons. 1) Power- 27cc is plenty of power and probably more than I even need. I just slightly squeeze the throttle and it easily goes through grass and weeds. It has so much power that I accidentally trimmed some of my wooden fence so be careful around the fence. 2) Comfortable- I was holding the various trimmer models in the store and I just didn't like the feel of the straight shaft. 3) Strong line- The line is easy to change and very durable. I was never a fan of the bump feed and I liked autofeed so I had some doubts about this hassle free line but I am liking it. 4) Starts Easily- It really starts easily for me as I don't need any other tool to start it. There was a time when I couldn't get it started so I looked in the instruction manual and it said in troubleshooting.... "Flooded engine- Hold throttle and pull". I did that and it started right away. I read in online forum that if you press the priming bulb too much that it could flood the engine. When the trimmer didn't start for me, it was after I used it and I pressed it 10 times again which wasn't really necessary and that flooded the engine. Now I know. So don't press the bulb more than necessary and if you flooded the engine, don't pull the line 20 times as it is just flooding the engine more. You just simply hold the throttle when pulling the string and it will start. Don't pull the string too many times because you are just flooding the engine more. The manual has good troubleshooting tips..... Let me talk about some of the complaints from one reviewer. It is under my impression that tall people like who are 6'2" prefer the straight shafts as they tend to be more comfortable than curved shafts for taller people. I read it on the forums and it makes sense. Complaining about it stalling? Never ever happened to me but maybe he had one of the bad ones in the batch. Complaining about breaking a line half way through his front yard? Really?! Maybe he got different lines from mine or he is trimming concrete. These lines are thick and very strong and I have yet to break one so far. I do trim weeds and grass though. Complaining about the motor not having enough power? This trimmer is a beast and has so much power that it could edge with ease. If I could flip it and edge with the string line, it could easily edge with a metal blade. The reviews for the craftsman metal edging attachment are very good (4 out of 5 stars). Complaining about loose parts and no way to tighten them? You just use that big red knob as it clamps the shaft. It is hard for me to believe that reviewer even has this craftsman trimmer because his complaints are so off base in my opinion (changing a line for every half front yard, not knowing about the big red tightening knob, etc) and then praising a very expensive Hitachi commercial straight line trimmer that he supposedly paid less for... Probably just a Hitachi fan. And you can't get a 24cc Hitachi straight line commercial trimmer for less than this craftsman trimmer as the Hitachi commercial trimmer sells for $280 at ********** and $230 on ******. I am glad that I listened to the positive reviews on this site because it made me lean to this trimmer over the others. I recommend this trimmer.

Only two seasons and dead
I trusted this brand backed up by Sears. Alas! Just few months after the warranty period, two years, it is dead. Does NOT stay running. I am not a heavy user. Of course, Sears is NOT willing to repair the trimmer few months after the warranty has expired. Really frustrating. Stay away from Craftsman brand!

Great WeedWacker!

This WeedWacker not only is easy to start but the heavy duty strings mean the lines don't need changed often. It has lots of power and does a great job!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Poor head design

I purchased this weed whacker because I was tired of replacing bump feeders and related parts on my previous 3 weed whackers. The multiple attachments are convenient but also poorly designed. Between the trimmer head and cutter head I would get about 3-5 minutes use and then have to shut down for 5-10 minutes to disassemble the head and pull all the grass out of the bearings and gearing, restart, then shut down again when the line insert broke. The heads need to be redesigned so that rotating parts are completely protected and don't pull grass/weeds into the mechanism. WARNING: the angle head gets extremely hot during use. Ensure you have suitable gloves to work on the unit. Good things about the unit? 1) The tree trimmer includes a 4' extension which I used for the weed whacker head to get into ditches without climbing down. 2) The assembled unit is fairly light and well balanced, and the included shoulder strap helps during long hours of use. 3) The included fuel stabilizer (ethanol remover??) treated 1 gallon of fuel but I only used the trimmer 3 times before returning it so I have some fuel left over.

works great

Starts on first pull every time. Really does a great job. has great balance. Will be able to add attachments in the future. Thus this will do a lot more than just trim where the lawn mower won't fit.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

1st is a charm

Used only once and it worked great. First few pulls and it started. The handle could be a bit longer. Weight was average. I like this stringer better than the coils.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Starts but wont stay running

Worked pretty well the first few times I used it. Starts with minimal effort (2 - 3 pulls) with choke on. After about a month of use (a couple hours on the weekends) it would not stay running. It still starts fine but once you turn the choke off or squeeze the throttle it sputters and dies.

Overall
excellent!

This is my first gas weed trimmer and i'm loving it! I'm coming from a battery operated B&D and this thing blows that out of the water! I'm using the craftsman 40:1 pre mixed gas/oil from the store that is high octane with NO ethanol. The ethanol will ruin the engine and carburetor in no time. This starts within 3 pulls every single time for me and never stalls. I bought some replacement line on ****** which is much more stronger than the craftsman brand, I blew through 3 pieces doing my yard and with the new stuff I haven't even burned through one custom cut piece yet! I have bought the edger for this trimmer too and it provides a great amount of power. I love that it takes attachments!

I would recommend this product to a friend.
