Great combo for a really good price
I was really looking for a reasonably priced brush cutter and ended up with a combo for about the same as a decent weedwacker. I don't really see any cons yet, but the pros are the price, multi-uses, and service availability. I had a great cutter that stopped working and don't have a service provider within 3 hours drive (local repair said they need special tools and parts).

Not worth $20
I purchased one today and had to return it. It would not run. I went to another store that had one and got it home it runs somewhat but got to pump the throttle to keep it from conking out. Its a Worthless American POS in my opinion. Go spend the money and get a good one.Go get one that is built in another country.

Good trimmer for the price

I've been using one of these for 3 seasons now and it been a good trimmer. The carb had to be adjusted on it last year due to lack of power, but other than that the engine starts very easy hot or cold and the entire trimmer has been trouble free. The brush cutter attachment is on the weak side, however, only being strong enough for 1/8 inch saplings or less. Although it's easy to use I'm not in love with the "hassle free" head because I have to change lines several times going around my cross-fenced acre as the chain link fence and concrete foundations really wear the line down fast. Just cutting out in the open, however, one line will last a long time. When the spool of .135 hassle free line runs out I may go with a regular tap and go head and stop using the hassle free. I have the Craftsman tiller attachment that we use some and I just bought the hedge clippers too. Both work well. This is really a good all-around tool for the home owner and if this one wears out I most likely will buy another just like it. It won't do the heavy work of a "pro class" trimmer but for the price I'm a happy camper.

Difficult to start

Difficult to start---line breaks too frequently and difficult to feed into head.

Works well with minor adjustment

Bought this item because I needed both a string trimmer and blade attachment. Cuts through stalks and weeds 3/4" and smaller without hesitation. Can also cut up to around 1 1/4" stalks with some force behind it. Used for about 10 hours of straight cutting over 3 days now with no big issues. With no breaks other than idling, goes through a gas tank in approximately 1 - 1 1/2 hours. Some notes though, engine starts up easily but would typically stall when I hit the throttle. Got around this by turning up the idle speed of the engine (recommended by the instruction manual, very easy). Still I find it best to pump the throttle once or twice before fully depressing the trigger. Once the blades are spinning it works well. I've had no problems with heat from the motor or burning my arm. If using properly I'm not sure why it would be touching your forearm, but even after a full tank of gas it is no more than warm to the touch. The "Blade" is more of a steel disc. It does the job for the sizes mentioned above, though it may achieve better results with a higher quality blade.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good Weed Wacker

This weed wacker did not have the bolt at the end of the shaft as many of these units did. This unit worked well and did not have the grass and weeds constantly wrapping around the shaft. Still to early to give a rating on this units durability as I have only used it a few times. Hopefully it will last as long as my previous Craftsman weed eater that lasted 15 years when I gave it to my son.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Very Weak

I wished I never purchased this item. It is very weak in power it would even stall itself even when your not cutting anything. Don't be fooled by the straight shaft. It is all cables on both ends. This thing would be ok on a very small yard and the brush-cutter attachment is really a joke. It can cut large weeds that would eat up lots of string using the normal head, being on a little bit of a positive site. If you are going to buy this then you better have a very small yard. It can't candle grass much more than three inches high. The brush cutter gets jammed up very easily. This is not a rugged tool by no means. You can get polan for cheaper and get about the same production as this thing. The 199 is overpriced and it doesn't perform up to its name brush cutter combo. This is superlight use tool. I took this thing back and for 200 more I got a Stihl weedeater with a real straight shaft with handlebars and a 3 sided cutting blade. I will probably never have to buy another weedeater again. Don't waste your time or money. This would be ok for a 10 year old boy doing lite work in small yards. Sell the brush cutter attachment on **** and hope you get some money back to pay for this thing.

Ive gone through 2 of these weed eaters now in 2 weeks, It is designed so that the head is held on by a washer and and nothing else so a couple bumps and the head comes off then u put the washer back on and it does it again in a couple minutes then the washer is wallered out and wont hold head on and then your s out of luck!!

Goes through lines quick

I DO NOT like the line design ("Hassle Free")....it's annoying to have to stop and change them...not too easy, either, and they're more expensive than the standard spools of line. Also, I actually don't like the clutch......the trimmer head speed doesn't seem to be as fast as ones without the clutch. But, I guess you need it because of the blade attachment?
