WelI, I can't be entirely informative regarding the overall performance and long term durability of this machine, however, I can share my initial thoughts and experience.... I spend alot of money and have good experiences with Sears/Craftsman, but this is the exception. After picking up from the Novi, MI Sears, I unloaded from the truck and unpackaged. Immediately, I was not happy with what I saw. The black plastic dash and light support were cracked/broken in multiple locations and there was oil all over the machine and packaging. I called the Sears store for a replacement dash and was given the number to the warrenty/parts. After being on the phone and transfered multiple times for almost an hour, I was told to call back Monday when "it was in the system". So after calling back Monday, and a good 15 minutes being transfered and placed on hold, I was told the replacement dash was "too much for them to authorize". Mind you the part only costs $78. I was then directed that this MUST be delt with at the store level (back where I started). So after multiple attempts, I get a hold of a sales rep and was told that I have bring the snowblower back so they can deem "defective" and get me a replacement. This is fine and all, but it is certainly inconvinient to borrow a truck again, load/secure this 200lb plus machine back in, and drive 30 min each way to exchange. I told them this was unacceptable and just want the replacement piece mailed to me. It sounded like they would not negotiate, so I went there in person on my way home from work and gave them the broken dash. After 30min of waiting, the manager agreed to have mailed to the store (or me) in about 10 days. This is fine with me, and an acceptable resolution. It just shouldn't have taken this much effort on my part. Now, hopefully, I actually receive the replacement. As far as the machine... It does seem heavy duty and function well, but there are a couple flaws to note. 1) Engine oil was about 12oz overfilled (even after some leaked out all over the machine). 2) Plastic Dash is somewhat flimsy 3) Alot of wiring is exposed and sloppy. Some not in any kind of condiut at all. 4) There is no throttle control 5) No ON/OFF switch on engine or dash (although manual identifys there is one below fuel tank, mine doesnt have one). There is only a cheesy plastic "push ****" by the carb that if removed, kills the engine. I see this being pretty easy to loose. 6) Upon first fill and startup, alot of fuel was leaking out of carb then when the engine finely fired, raw fuel dumped out of the exhaust for a few seconds. I've started/ran the engine a few more times after, and has been fine since...
I had a 11 year old 22" model. The storm 0n 02-06-2013 in Suffolk Long Island hit. My little thrower didn't stand a chance. I've been looking into a new one. So I purchase this perfect size beast. It was easy to assemble, with some common sense. It works great. Easy to control. I love it. Can't wait for more snow.
This machine looked sturdy in the store. However when I filled the tank with gas, half of it leaked out the bottom of the tank. I was not giving this machine another chance after seeing that issue. I promptly returned it to the store for a refund.
it came unassembled the swivel on the chute didn't work had a hard time trying to get a new blower or a mechanic to come out told I would have to bring to repair shop still don't have a replacement(2/26/13) del scheduled for 2/24 cancelled becuase of impending storm that didn't materialize I did get the bill but I don't have a snow blower that works
I bought this right after the blizzard of 2013. My small craftsman finally died after 27 years. This new machine went threw 30 inches of snow with no problem.
