I bought this snow blower in 2007, I like it at first. In 2010 it had a problem with belt and costed me 300 bucks to fix it. In 2013 this one refused to work and engine is completely dead. I have to dump it in garbage. So 7 years usage, total cost 1000+300=1300 plus gas. About 200 bucks per year! What a piece of ****! If I hired someone to shovel the snow, it only costs me 300 buck per winter. Now with craftsman or craptsman, I have to do all work myself and still cost me 200 bucks per winter. Some other brands, like Ariens, can easily last more than 10 years, or 20 years! Byebye, crapman. Will never ever buy it again.

This started very easily and I love the headlight on it. It did a great job blowing the snow and handled well. It was also nice having 2 reverse speeds which my old snow blower did not have.
This is my third Craftsman snowblower. I am very happy with the products. My last one lasted me 12 years. I sold it in great working order and bought this one. Mechanically, this model is even better than my last (29"). I have never even used the electric start as it starts on the 1st or 2nd pull every time. I do garage/shed it when not in use and I am thorough on my maintenance. My only criticism is the chute. The other units allowed you to throw snow slightly backward (20 degrees past perpendicular to either side). My current machine only allows me to throw snow directly left/right and any direction forward. The chute also has trouble locking into a position. It tends to wander during use. If the chute were better, I would give it 5 stars.
If you've done your research then you honed in on the 28 inch 277cc unit. It's a solid and strong unit and an excellent value. It is well balanced, moves nicely, good snow output, good speed options, the joystick works fine (except that I tend to find myself moving the position more than I used to just because it's there and I can). It would be nice if it had a fuel shutoff valve, but not a deal breaker. Overall I'm happy with it and think it's one of the best units and value on the market at the moment.
I purchased this item after much deliberation on whether to hire someone or DIY Im so happy that i purchased this model. It is super powerful on my very steap driveway and has proven ability to throw even the wettest snow we have here in coastal New England. At first i was intimidated that the size would prove to be more than i could manuever however the "power steering", rugged tires and 10hp engine make this easy to use.

Purchased this Craftsman Snowblower to replace my old one which was also a Craftsman that was 17 years old. It was finally starting to give me some difficulty. The new one is amazing! Love it, probably should have upgraded a few years ago!
Nothing like waiting for a snow storm to buy your snow thrower. I used it to clear 2' of snow at our cabin as soon as I got back from the store. Could not be happier with it.
I love all things about the machine except the chute controls. Poorly designed. It starts, runs and performs excellent. It blows the snow farther than my last snow blower and the one wheel controls are very useful. But I have yet to get the up and down chute control to work and the side to side require stopping the machine completely to make a change. It seems to be under engineered. Surprising from Sears. First product I have not been delighted with from Sears and unfortunately I would not recommend this to a friend.
If you're reading this review, you must be considering buying a blower. What can I say to urge you not to buy this one?. I own it and I can tell you that after a moderate to heavy snowfall, you will disappointed and angry. It just does not have the power to efficiently clear snow deeper than 4 or 5 inches. Even with 4 or 5 inches it will sputter and stammer and you will find that the only way you can use it is to take narrow bites. Using that method, it will take you a lot longer to clear your driveway than you anticipated. Basically, it's a great machine for someone that lives in Southern California. If you live elsewhere, then buy a better machine. Sears wants a lot of money for this thing and I know it "looks" impressive with the 28" auger. Don't be fooled. If you're willing to spend $1000 or even $800, go to your local power equipment dealer and you'll do far better for that kind of money. If it's too late and you already made the purchase, then give this machine to your adolescent son so that he can "help daddy outside". This thing is nothing more than a toy.
