Nice tool set
Great tool set. Comes with a good array of 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 6 and 12 pt sockets and drive tools. I particularly like the marked insert in the drawers for the tools. I would recommend this set to any weekend/shadetree mechanic. If you order them for direct shipment from sears.com, be prepared to wait up to 10 days for delivery "after" you get the "your order has shipped" notice.

Buyer Beware
I've been using Craftsman hand tools for many many years now and have literally spent thousands on them. Sadly, Craftsman tools are not the quality tools they once were. I bought this mechanics set at the end of 2011 thinking it was a great deal. I couldn't have been more wrong. You can easily see that they were made cheap and boxed cheap just to get 283 pieces to market. Well there is 283 pieces but many of those pieces are duplicates and hex keys. By far the worst feature about this set for me besides the poor quality of the tools are the drawers and the cheap plastic molds that the tools slide around on. I can't count how many times I've had to dig my tools out from the bottom of the box with an extension magnet to retrieve the sockets that fell down (the drawers do not pull out completely). Craftsman has really fell behind the pack of great tool makers and quality products. Until they roar back with quality, I've chosen to take my money and business elsewhere...snap-on tools.

do more research

I bought this set a while ago thinking it would be a good starter set for working on cars, but now that i have been doing more work i realize that most of the tools aren't necessary for a starter set. The set has a lot more standard sockets than metric sockets. Which unless if your working on older domestic cars you probably want more metric. And more than half of the sockets are 12 point and most bolts on cars are 6 point. However all of the tools in here are ok quality. Just make sure that the tools apply to what you are going to use them for.

I paid more money for the tool box and was told by the sales man it was one of there good boxes-- The box is a cheap and poorly build the draws jam constantly and need two hands to open. What a rip now I need to buy another box-- I should take the tools back and buy another set???

Good set good price - some complaints

This is a well priced set that includes a steel box and organizational trays. It includes all of the needed basics in a mechanics tool set. Problems/complaints/suggestions: 1. The drawer slides are a little rough and don't compare to ball bearing glides 2. The trays are extremely cheap plastic. It would have been nice if they had been made from standard cut foam. 3. There is no organization tray for the wrenches, the screwdrivers, or the hex wrenches. I guess they just expect you to dump them in the top. 4. Be sure to do a thorough inventory. My set was missing the 1/4" drive ratchet and a 15mm deep socket. I've been trying for hours to get somebody on the phone to fix the problem, but to no avail. The sears/craftsman telephone service and parts ordering is awful. Also, when I call the local store, there's no way to get a live person.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

I used to have better, but still OK

Finish is not up to standards that I remember. I had a smaller set of Craftsman tools years ago that was stolen and I wish I had again. First thing I noticed was the latches bring roughly stamped and sharp edged. The open wrenchs are also sharp edged with burrs. The blown plastic organizers are very nice and hold the tool mostly, but don't rock the chest too hard or the pieces will fly off their places. Wrenches have not holders... have to buy those seperately. The tiny wrench are not very hard and I already put a dent on one tiny 6mm wrench when I could not reach with a socket...it is more like 6.25mm now. This is all not too surprising theses day as the bottom like must be maintained and so the quality must suffer somewhere. I rate it still good as the overall reason for my purchase is to have many sizes as fast as possible for jobs coming up.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good Stuff

Just picked this up today (6/9/13). Great starter set for a shade tree mechanic, good set for the money-- very complete for less than $300 with promo codes. The box says tools made in USA, box made in Mexico, and indeed all the tools are marked USA, even the ratchets and drivers. The ratchets seem solid but inferior to my dad's 70s-era ratchets. The finish is adequate, if not high end quality. Everything else is up to par, a couple of shallow stampings notwithstanding. Not complaining-- great tools for the money. I was looking at the same items on the shelves before I picked up my set, and most of them were made in China... so what they say about Craftsman these days is true-- and there is a noticeable difference in quality, to my eyes and hands. So if you're thinking about picking up this set, I'd do it before the American-made stock is gone. I like Craftsman tools because they're good quality at a reasonable price. Sad to see even the hand tools coming from China now.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Big Red Box of Awesome

Very complete starter kit. The chrome finish on a couple of the larger sockets is kinda rough, but it shouldn't affect performance (and after getting some use and dirt on 'em, I probably won't be able to notice anyway). Toolbox seems well built, but the drawers require a little finessing and elbow grease to to slide in and out without problems. The only drawback is the plastic carrying handle and hinges on the top of the case. It might hold the weight of the tools that came with it, but I get the feeling that it would be the first thing to fail if you put more weight inside. As a side note, one of the sockets received was a duplicate. Not bad, considering the large amount that are in the kit, but one quick (and friendly) call later, the problem was addressed and the missing socket was out of the UPS envelope and in the box 2 days later. Awesome.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
