Great set for my shop

This drill bit set has replaced a whole drawer full for mis-matched bits.  I have used them in both the drill press and the handheld drill.  I've been impressed by their ability to keep an edge and the sizes this set offers have served every need I'[ve had so far.  i use them in wood, soft metals and even hard metals.  Like all precision bits a little every care should be taken not to over-heat them, but with a little common sense you'll enjoy this set for years.

These bits are junk

I am a mechanic. The first time I used these bits, the tip either chipped or broke completely off! I took them back to the local Sears I got them from and was told that I would not get any type of compensation. The manager accused me of trying to sharpen the broken one. I would not recomend these to anyone. NO WARRANTY! NO HELP!

Good Value in a 29 piece Cobalt Drill Bit Set

One uses cobalt bits mainly to drill in metals - especially ferrous metals such as steel or iron. You can use it to drill other materials also such as wood, plastic, and non-ferrous metals such as brass and aluminum. I was pleased with the quality for the cost I paid for these bits. I have used them for general pulse use as well as drilling steel and cast iron. Cast iron is very hard and can be hard on drill bits. Be sure to use lubrication when drilling metals - especially steel and cast iron. By the way WD-40 is great for non-ferrous metals, and light machine oil is best for steel or iron. It helps protect the bit from premature wear out. I did eventually dull the 9/64 bit on cast iron - but I had failed to provide lubrication and drilled several holes in cast iron. On the whole I am pleased with these bits.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Absolutely Junk -- Very Thin Cobalt Coating

I needed to drill out a 3/8 inch broken muffler bolt. It took the use of at least 8 drill bits, starting small and progressing upward, to accomplish this! Even though I was using cutting oil liberally, the larger bits would stop cutting after a very short period and were useless. They even spun in my Dewalt drill because of the smooth shank. The cobalt coating is only microns thick and burns right off leaving you with a dull, soft-steel drill bit and a cute box for your $100 bucks! Tomorrow, Sears gets them back and they should be taken off the shelf.

craftsman 29 pc. cobalt drill bit set is great

I'm an auto mechanic. I bought this set for mostly removing broken bolts. So far it has been doing great jobs without breaking any sizes. Just before I bought it, I broke a crankshaft pulley bolt at work. I needed to rush to Sears and pick up the best one in the store. I was easy to make a hole in the broken bolt. I thought I would break a few bits but I broke none. Not only the pulley bolt, I also used for broken exhaust bolt and the job was successful. The only thing I am worried about is they don't have individual replacements just as other reviews said. But I have used them many times and haven't broken any yet. So I hope and believe it won't happen so soon.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Super sharp. High quality

These drill bits are by far the best I have had so far. They work great on all material such as steel, aluminum, brass, plastic and rubber. You will want to be very careful with these though, as the Cobalt bits are not sold separately. I dont know about you but I anal about my tools and if 1 drill bit is missing from the case, its all over!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Chip and break easily.

Drilling 1/2 inch steel plate (mild steel) in a drill press (also craftsman) and the bits would chip and a few snapped right in half. High price and low performance. Used some cheap Irwin bits and they did the job for a third of the price. Shame on Sears.

Looking to replace this set

More than have these bits have broke in half. Sharp and cut well, but a little snag and snap!

Unless your doing soft wood, steer clear.

Bits were fine but the store sold me a beat-up set as new.

Let me first say I am happy with the bits themselves, I am derementing stars only for the way the store treated me.  I purchased these online and went into the store to pick them up.  When the guy handed them to me, the case had been severly beaten and in really bad shape.  If it was a minor thing, I would have overlooked it, but it was in rough shape.  I am talking about the metal case that houses the bits, not the plastic wrapper/cellophone.  However, the bits themselves inside the case seemed fine.  I happened to need tham that day so I took them.  Oustide of needing to buy another cheap set to obtain a case to hold these nice bits, I am happy with the purchase.  I am quite unhappy with Sears itself though for being completely happy selling a product as new that was obviously beat up badly.
