I purchased this edger in April 2010. The first season it started with the pull rope. The beginning of the second season it took the power drill to start and then mid summer it regressed to power drill plus starting fluid to start. Finally it would not start at all. Since it was still under warranty, I took it to the Sears store where purchased. They do not evaluate it where you bought it. They ship it to Dallas. A customer service rep called me about a week later and said it needs a new short block because it was caused by too much or not enough oil. I find this hard to believe since it did not smoke at all. It was only hard to start. The rep could not direct me to anyone higher and said my option was to send it back. After it arrived at the Sears store where I purchased, I spoke with the manager who read from the service report what they found. No leeway. None of we are sorry that our edger is a piece of dung. She did ask if I wanted to purchase a new edger. Are you serious? I told her I will buy one from ********** or ********** said but their warranty is not as good as ours. Geez, how much worse can it be when a warranty is not really a warranty. Bottom line -- I have a Sears lawnmower, blower, power washer and many power tools. But you know what? Never again will I purchase anything from Sears.

If your yard has been kept up and edged regularly this will probably keep it up. But if your yard has been neglected at all don't bother with this one. There is a reason the larger ones are always out of stock. I used this for 3 hours and did one half of one side walk about 75 ft. Took it back and bought a different larger edger, different brand and did the whole yard in about 2 hours including redoing the part I did with this one. It works fine just not enough power.

you say your blade is hard steel you have to be kidding I took it off to sharpen and its nothing but cold rolled steel. I edge about 150 ft weekly and it wares down to where I have to replace it. I know you think I'm cutting the concrete but I am very careful because I know how soft the steel is.Because of this I can't recommend the whole edger. You need to upgrade the BLADE.
This is a decent edger. Easy to set-up, easy to operate. If your grass is thick or your edge takes a lot of effort, this guy might not be the right edger, but it does the job. HOWEVER, once the blade gets beaten down, it's nearly impossible to replace. I took the whole edger apart and the one bolt I could not remove was the one that held the blade in place! I took it back to Sears and they had no help. I went to this website and they had no help. I went to Google and You-tube...no help. Most edgers have a mechanism to lock the blade, if this one has one, I couldn't find it and now I simply can't remove the blade and the edger is essentially a throw away. Unless Craftsman gives me direction on how to swap the blade, I can't give this more than one star. Sorry.
Was hesitant to purchase because it only had 29cc engine. I was pleasantly amazed at how well this thing works. My driveway is 85' long and at least as much sidewalk. Never hesitated or struggled. Edger walked right through them both. Easy to adjust cutting depth. Easy to start and you get an adapter to start with your drill. I am very pleased.
