      Extended Bit

Does a good job, but cannot adjust and the allen screws to tighten the bit down are not a good secure way to do it.

      Be Prepared...

Have you ever been working on a project only to find that you don't have the right tool, bit, blade, whatever?  I have and let me tell you it's frustrating!

Last fall I was performing some rennovation work to the two-story deck that is on the rear of our house.  I had all the material delivered by the lumber company, I had solicited the help of my son and son-in-law and we prepared to start.

The first thing we needed to do was bore a series of holes through the front ledger board and the 6 x 6 treated posts.  These holes needed to be 3/4" to accept some very heavy lag bolts that would add more strength to the connection.  We needed this extra holding power because of the added weight we were planning for the rennovation.

I got out my Craftsman Professional 3/8" HD Corded Drill and perpared to bore the holes.  A Pressure Treat 6 x 6 measures 5-1/2".  The ledger board system consisted of 2 x 12 material.  There was one attached to each side of the post.  Each piece actually measure 1-1/2".  Added together, I would need a bit to bore a minimum of 8-1/2" deep to go all the way through the wood.  My tradtional 6" Spade Bit fell short.

I was off the the hardware store while my help waited.  Frustrated!

the next time I was at Sears I purchased this bit along with a complete set of every size available.  Like a good Boy Scout - Be Prepared!
