Craftsman 3/8 in. Drive Quick Release Teardrop Ratchet

This is the same ratchet that has been in Craftsman mechanic tool sets for ages...and for good reason! Strong, solid and overbuilt to withstand severe duty, this is the most used ratchet any place I have ever been!

Chinese ratchet?
Returned this item to my local Sears because the plastic lever snapped in the tool case! It must have brushed against another tool when I shut the lid. I went to exchange it but was told by the clerk in hardware that they had none in stock and store policy prohibited pulling one off the rack and that Sears would mail me one within 30 days. I was told to fill out a form and the clerk called Crafstman (8 minutes on the phone while I stood there - the clerk spelled and repeated the spelling of my name and address about 4 times and still they got it wrong). I had to leave the old ratchet and was given a confirmation #. 32 days later I received the replacement by mail and noticed that the tag reads "Made in China". I've been buying Craftsman tools for 39 years - no more! Poor customer service and poor quality tools = no customers! Very sad that this former American institution has lost it's way

Craftsman 3/8 ratchet

This ratchet could use some improvement, it is ok for occasional usage, if you want a better ratchet you'll need to spend some more money. I've been using a flex (breaker bar) to break loose fasteners and then switching to this ratchet.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

No longer worth it

After 24 years my 3/8" drive ratchet finally gave up. It has been used to work on countless cars and in my bike shop so I had zero complaints. The warranty replacement was another story. I was given a chinese replacement that looked and felt like a poorly made toy, the tool didnt even have the right weight. I was not aware of the Craftsman asian invasion so i checked other tools while in the department and was very surprised at all the imports. A very sad end of an era for this mechanic.

This is a fair item. I took my old ratchets back to get replaced, The dealer gave me some out of a box , that was repaired, they didn't work and had rust on them. I took them back to a different Sears store, this store gave me new ratchet's. This still does not replaced my old one's, which i payed alot more money compared to the new ones. Sears has new one's almost like my old one's but you have to buy online and can't get a replacement? So when you buy a tool from sears you get what you get not a tool like you have. The warranty is what ?

I would recommend this product to a friend.

not an everyday tool

this ratchet was decent the first few times i used it but after about 2 weeks of everyday use this ratchet started to fall apart and the gears dont hold up anymore, they constantly slip. this would be an ok ratchet for weekend projects but if you are going to be using it 6 days a week i would advise to just spend the extra money on a snap on. this is the only craftsman tool that has let me down...so far

In a word.....Poor

Long story short. Few years ago I had to replace all of my basic hand tools. Had Craftsman, liked Craftsman, chose Craftsman. Got one of the "mechanic tool sets" and to my surprise, the ratchets were no longer round handled, they had gone to this rectangular design. No biggie... well until I used them. It wasn't only the handles that changed, the internals are crap. The set I got came with 1/4, 3/8, & 1/2 drive. I tried to go back to my local Sears and get the "old" design and they were "no longer available", so no luck. Sears has reintroduced the old design (for more $), but too late. I now use my Snap-On and MAC and Stanley ratchets.
That said, I still love my Craftsman other tools. Wrenches are great, sockets are great and so on.

Don't buy this one, either step up to the better grade or choose a different brand.

Great replacement

Had my craftsman 3/8 ratchet for 14 years of non stop auto work and it finally gave out. Took it to the store and they replaced it. Less than 10 minutes after I walked in with the broken one, I walked out with a new one for free. Didn't need to wait for a tool truck to come around at the end of the month. Gotta love craftsman.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

A Little Depressing

Today I exchanged my 3/8 drive ratchet that broke. I had it for about 8 years, it was used to install residential elevators and wheelchair lifts. I was a firm believer in Craftsman tools until today when I saw my replacement. Not even close to what I turned in.
