The black 3/8 inch drive ratchet is a sweet little item... It fits great in the hand and is very comfortable... Unlike the standard Craftsman ratchets that come in most all the tool set it has a 45 tooth gear assembly instead of the 36 gear drive, this give it a bit more flexibility in tight spaces... Overall the ratchet is 7 13/16 inches long and a bit heavier than the standard 8 inch 3/8 drive Craftsman ratchet... Although it is not made in the USA (con) it still carries the Craftsman Lifetime Warranty... Besides all that, it is just a really cool ratchet and looks great in the tool box... I would recommend this ratchet to anyone that wants to upgrade from the standard ratchet...

This ratchet works great. The smooth action makes it easy to use and it's craftsman so any problems and I can return it.

Made in China, covered in rust after the first use. Is there any benefit in getting this as opposed to a cheap home depot ratchet? Craftsman has strayed very far from the tools I grew up with; from the tools my grandfather grew up with.

I am currently using it as my primary grunt tool for basic bolts on my 1968 Mustang project. Works great and fits all of my 3/8 sockets as it should. I bought it because the cheap ratchets in the $5 socket kits bought at the 99 cents store kept breaking. So far this one clicks really smooth and doesn't show any sign of breaking in time. I love the black and polished steel look.

I was like the other reviewer and didn't want to buy a set just to get the ratchet and bought this online. I am very impressed by the weight that this ratchet has; not that it makes much of a difference but it was surprising. The ratcheting action is very crisp and smooth which is nice compared to the "basic" ratchet. The selector lever is metal which means it won't break like the plastic ones. I took off the snap ring too take a look inside and was kinda surprised. The operation on this is similar to the "thin profile" and "premium" design. It doesn't have the tooth count the higher end ones have, but the way the gears operate does make for a strong ratchet. Only downer I could see, would be the non-chrome finish might lead to rusting if someone were to leave this out in the elements. I am not one to do that to my tools, just saying. Great ratchet and great design!!! Good job Craftsman

When the black universal 3/8-inch ratchet came out in the package with the sockets I knew I wanted to buy it. But, I just wanted to buy the ratchet, I didn't want to buy the entire package that came with the ratchet and the sockets. So I waited, and eventually I went in to Sears and there it was; the black ratchet sold seperately! I already had a 3/8-inch ratchet but at the same time I use my older 3/8-inch ratchet all the time for the work that I do so having an extra ratchet to me was a necessity incase I lost mine or I needed a 2nd ratchet if someone was helping me!
