I use this punch all the time...even on wood. With a punched starting hole when using my drill press, it's very easy to drill your hole right on the money....you can feel the drill tip go in the hole and saves time lining it up.

A simple non-automatic prick punch, who not use the automatic punch instead? Because this punch gives you greater control for placement and for amount of force applied. In the world of aluminum, where I have spent most of my career, having the ability to meter the amount of force used in placing s starting hole is greatly appreciated. You can regulate how hard you use your hammer and achieve infinitely greater control over the punch than you can with an automtic prick punch. Divet not deep enough? Just applay a second gentle rap with the hammer. You can quickly set a divet and start drilling where you would still be fooling with the settings on the automatic punch. "Sacramento" Bruce Conklin

This thing is a necessity of you do any drilling into masonry of any kind. Bits tend to "wander" as you start a hole in brick, concrete, etc., but start the whole with this punch and a hammer and you'll be drilling with absolute precision. Worth the money and stays sharp. Highly recommended.
