Best Value For The Price
After finding overpriced used junk online and at garage sales, I searched thoroughly for a new, compact, portable unit that would met my needs, for about $100-125. I did lots of "homework" and shopping around, and it paid off. I am sure I have put this unit through more abuse in 6 months than most homeowners will in a lifetime. NOTE: There is a HUGE difference between "Piston" type compressors (like this one), vs "Diaphragm" style (like the worthless, slow, noisy ones you plug in a cigarette lighter). Buy a piston compressor like this one. Do NOT buy an "Oil-Free" compressor, they are diaphragm units and you will be disappointed. They take 10-20 minutes to air up a tire, this thing will do it in less than a minute. My store was out of stock, so I ordered it online, and they shipped it to my home for FREE. This unit was in perfect condition out of the box, (I was worried, box was beat-up by freight company). Poured in the included oil, and put it to work. I really like that it came with a hose and accessory kit, (even a roll of teflon tape!), and oil. I bought a $4 quick-change coupler at the auto parts store and put it on the hose, so I can change tools quickly. A GREAT feature is the adjustable pressure regulator, and dual gauges. You don't have to worry about over-inflating anything, just set the pressure you want with a ****. I have used it HARD for the past 6 months, and it is proving to be very durable. It does not have enough capacity to constantly operate heavy-duty "air-hog" tools like die grinders, but with the 3 gallon tank, I just let it catch-up between short work sessions. NOTE: I highly recommend changing the oil after the first hour or two of actual running time. Just like a car engine, the break-in process creates metallic wear particles. That first oil change is the most critical, and in a big way, determines how long your engine (or compressor) will last. You only need a very tiny bottle of compressor oil, (It only holds like 4 Oz). Easy to change with just a pair of pliers or adjustable wrench for the drain plug, just drain it into an empty plastic water or soda bottle. Cheap insurance to ensure a long life. You can see the oil through the sight plug, when it starts to get dark, change it. I have changed mine twice since then, and I've gotten this thing so hot, several times, running almost non-stop for an hour or more at a time, and figured it would die. Nope! I am very satisfied with it. Kind of noisy, (what compressor isn't?). Thinking the air filter inlet could be modified to flow more air, (to improve the performance). Overall glad I took the time to research and select this unit. Highly recommend it, unless you need a larger unit. The best small household compressor you will find, and under $100 on sale. Oh, and it holds air pressure forever! I haven't used it in a month, it's been unplugged, and it still has 100# in the tank.

Cheap but works.
Let me start by saying that - based on the low price - I did not expect a high quality product made in the US, all I wanted was a little compressor to fill tires and maybe use air tools occasionally. I was still a little disappointed, the first issue was the assembly of the handle: It is held in place with two screws, one of which was cross-threaded out of the box. And that was actually the better one of the two, because the other had fallen off the compressor and was loose in the box, with no sign of the washer and lock-washer present on the stuck screw. After filling the compressor with the supplied oil (which was nice - certain discount stores make you buy the oil separately), the compressor fired right up. That's where the next problem started: The rubber feet of the compressor are so hard that they don't absorb any vibrations, so while the motor is running, the compressor moves around the garage as far as permitted by the power cable or any accessories attached. It looked pretty funny, actually, I should have made a video. Finally, the quick-connect for the air seems to be a little bit off, it requires an enormous amount of force to insert the mating connector. But I might replace that anyway, since there is no air shut-off valve installed either. In summary, this is the usual low-quality tool you would expect at a discount store, with a little extra customer service (and warranty), with a couple of fixable problems, but it does work.

Overall
nicely made, but...

I just brought this home and set it up. I was impressed with the build quality, for the price. Setup instructions could be clearer, however. For instance, there's no heads-up that the required/supplied oil fills only a third of the bottle it comes in (3 oz in an 8 oz bottle). Also, there are scant instructions on the use of the Regulator Valve; you'd think with TWO provided gauges they'd tell you how to read them and/or how they're connected operationally to the Regulator. IMPORTANT: if you follow their instructed shut-down procedure, you could get hurt going first for the condensation drain plug-- they should have told you to relieve ALL the built-up air pressure first, probably done best and quickest by pulling the ring on the tank safety valve. And they don't explain why they want you also to "set the outlet pressure to zero on the Regulator" after every use. Must be their lawyers talking (most of the manual, in fact, betrays heavy legal hands). And as to checking the air filter before every use, forget that; it takes a strong hand to uncap the filter's housing, and if you're like me, you're going to do it a lot less often because of its difficult-to-manage design. Me thinks the engineers designed the compressor (quite nicely for its likely use), then turned over the manual-writing to non-tool-using folks, who in turn passed it on to pinstriped lawyers. The manual should have taken another lap back around the track before being released. Lastly, no surprise, the compressor is loud. They tell you to wear ear protection when draining the tank afterwards. but not during use. Go figure.

Overall
Good Air Compressor For the money.

I purchased this air compressor to replace an older Sears 12 Gallon air compressor that I purchased12 years ago (when Sears quality was higher). I worried some because this one is built is China and subject to the typical "China junk rule" (CJR) I will use it for airing up auto tires, general shop cleanup where compressed air is idea, cleaning filters, etc. For these types of jobs, this compressor should perform well. For bigger jobs, such as air tools, you should really purchase one with a larger tank and a larger motor (this one is 1 HP, my old 12 gallon air compressor was 2 HP). Now the pros; (1) Good value (~ $100 after tax) (2) Mine tend to hold air reasonably well. But because of the CJR, you should test yours. Fill it up with air, turn it off, and note the air pressure reading. Make note of this and check back in 24 hours. It may drop 5-10 LBs but no more. I'll test mine and try to report back later. (3) Portability (4) Load, but tolerable (5) Oil lubricated (6) Oil and air hose are supplied (7) Sears parts for repair are typically available Now the cons; (1) CJR may bite you (mine, so far, avoided this) (2) Direct drive, but probably ok. I prefer belt drives. (3) Motor is a little small. Owners manual states it is only a 50% duty cycle which means the motor should only be allowed to run 30 minutes in one hour. (4) You should purchase a 3 year warranty (which means the effective price goes up) because of the CJR could bite you within 3 years. (5) Supporting China by buying their junk and funding their economy instead of ours. And remember to; (1) Drain the water from the tank as recommended by the owners manual. (2) Keep up with the oil (check and change). First oil change is the most important and do it early. (3) Keep the air filters clean. Good luck! The Max

Nice Compressor for light use

I've had my eye on this compressor for several years - the Black Friday specials were very good this year and i got one at Kmart for $79. I had no problem assembling and it seems to run fine. The hose is a little on the cheap side but there are plenty of deals on rubber or polyurethane hoses to replace it. I have a Craftsman Professional pancake compressor and an upright in the garage for heavier work but this one is easier to hall around for filling up tires and blowing away shop dust. If it holds up like my other two this will be a great little compressor.

Excellent

Incredibly portable, and the handle makes it very easy to carry. Provides great air pressure, and makes automobile tires quick and easy to inflate without taking up a lot of space in the garage.
