And if you're a household repair do-it-yourselfer, this compressor operates pneumatic tools, like nail guns, paint sprayers, and air ratchets with equal ease.
Your Craftsman 3 gal. oil lube air compressor is small but tough. The housing material is steel for a long life. It has a 1.0 HP direct drive motor with a maximum operating pressure of 135 psi and a piston style pump. It weighs just 47 lbs., so it's easy to move to wherever you need it. This was on sale for $90 when I bought it and I had a $5 coupon and a $50 gift card from another order Sears messed up from a while back, so I paid $42 tax included for this kit. I basically stole this thing! But even at $90 it's still a good deal, 2.4 SCFM compressors that are of decent to good quality are usually $150+ (and usually with no accessories). Pros: -Does exactly what it says it does -Seems to be well built -Small and compact -Oiled compressor, which means it should last longer than others -Booted up (from empty to full) in 1:20 (1 minute, 20 seconds), which is very quick -Left air in mine for about half a day and it did not leak at all -Comes with oil (although you should change it after your first few uses) Cons: -Hose supplied is very cheap, still usable though for now -It's quite heavy, you'll be surprised based on its dimensions -As another user pointed out, it will in fact bounce around on concrete, so I bought a $3 rubber mat at ********** and that fixed the problem -The accessories included are really only for inflating tires, doesn't even come with a blow gun so you'll likely spend another $15-$20 on more fittings and a blow gun -This was my first oiled compressor and the directions were not very clear on the installation of the air filter. The air filter is in a round metal casing. The casing says on it "push on" with a clockwise arrow, and then vice versa for the off position. The manual says to check the actual air filter (which is inside the casing) every time you start the compressor, so I assumed you had to "push" and turn the casing clockwise to have the filter in the on position. You don't. I think that's just how you get inside of the casing to change the filter, even though no matter how many times I tried, I couldn't get the darn thing open. So maybe I'm just an idiot, but I thought that was a little confusing and I couldn't find documentation anywhere on it.
Working great for me. The component quality seems to be higher than most normal household compressors offered by most stores. The handle design could be changed, it is a little awkward to carry around. It will walk around on a smooth surface like the garage floor. I use it mostly on a plywood top workbench and it hasn't been a issue at all. It fills quickly and is doing exactly what I wanted it to do. I have a larger compressor for power tools, though this will run a brad nail gun with little effort. Thanks Sears.
This is a very good alternative to a pancake compressor. It was very easy to assemble and use. The tank filled in about 2 minutes. It is perfect for putting air in tires, and i plan to try it with a nail gun, this week. This compressor was priced at. $119. I would recommend this compressor to friends.
Got home Labor Day night with my new toy...unboxed it and started assembling. Well built, clean welds, solid. New bolt on handle allows for the 135 psi..1 less weld on the tank gets a 10psi boost..for those that thought the bolt on handle was a cheap move, you just don't understand the gain power! This compressor is quiet..builds pressure fast.Has a regulator that works really well..all it needs is a inline filter and its ready to run some air nailers! I want to thank Bobbi Jo *****,the Sales Associate for working with me on this purchase. She went above and beyond to get my problem taken care of. Thanks.
This is a solid compressor for the money. The plastic hose and attachments are not very high quality, but it's what I expected. The compressor does what it's supposed to do.
I bought this in 2004 and it has been a great compressor: First the bad: It's loud, it's heavy, but they probably all are. The good - filling up care tires, bike tires, footballs, etc, it's a breeze. Perfect for light to medium duty jobs too - nailing trim, fences, other honey do's that you need a nail gun for. One minor problem - I have an older house with older wiring. If I am running a lot of electricity through a circuit and the compressor kicks on sometimes it does not get enough power, runs improperly (like 1/4 speed) and eventually kicks off. You may think the compressor is broken, but it's not. Just find a different plug and try that.
This is an excellent compressor for small jobs. While it has the power to inflate truck tires, this is an excellent unit for smaller jobs, just as nail guns, and inflating ATV and tractor tires. It's easy to move around.
