Good vise - bad parts

I bought this vise - pretty well satisfied with the quality for price.  However, it does not come with slotted jaws (for holding round parts securely in either horizontal or vertical position), surely a crucial shortcoming.  Tried to find parts online - and this vise isn't listed in searspartsdirect.com.  It could be that the jaws for 24071 vise (the one with the standard jack screw) would fit?... but how to find them and buy them?

Difficult to open and close
Bought mine in June 2011 (is now Jan 2014). Is generally a good design, and perhaps I just got a damaged item, but it has always been very difficult to open and close, as if the alignment rods are misaligned or bent. Usually have to tap it closed (which eventually broke the handle) and pry it open. Quadruples set-up time, which is very frustrating. Also, adjustment on the quick-release clamp is much more touchy than the same type clamps on my other tools. I should probably return it, but I live 90+ miles from Sears, and don't get there often. Haven't checked warranty (my fault) but just want to caution potential buyers. If it doesn't work smoothly right from the start, and continue working smoothly for several weeks, I'd strongly suggest returning it.

Great vice

As much as I don't like buying china made stuff, I found this vice to be pretty convenient. It locks in pretty tight and very quick to release and set up another piece. Getting it on sale just makes the tool a little nicer.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Useful Safety device

Hi all. Bought this to Save my fingers when working on small objects. I use this with a Craftsman 8" Bench Top Drill Press bought many years ago. My only wish is that Sears would have been kind enough to supply some sort of Mounting Hardware. Have to find something suitable. Or use Clamps or Locking Pliers. The kind like Welders use. Looks like a big C- Clamp. If it wasn't for that, I'd give it 5 Stars.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good design, solid feel, bad bite

Very solid feel and nice and heavy, seems to be well-made. The mounting points are slotted (thankfully), not like what's pictured. Only complaint I have, and this could be due to the smooth jaws, is I can't seem to get as strong of a grip as I'd like on whatever I'm drilling.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Quick vise

Own a machine shop, we use these all the time. The Sears vise seems as good as the others in the shop. Was on sale, couldn't pass it up

I would recommend this product to a friend.
