I've had two sets of these for years. I grinded one of the gouges into a continental-type fingernail shape and use the other like a roughing gouge. They look just like the Sorby ones only cost much less. Great value and great for pen turning and small stuff

I had bought a set similar to these at Rockler and paid $20 more but didn't get anything better than this set! I bought these because we have two lathes and we tend to use them both at the same time. My son makes pens and I make duck calls and these stay as sharp as the more expensive set making them the better deal!

The smaller tools work very well on a mini lathe. I have used both large and small tools to turn pens, but the smaller tools allow you to make finer cuts resulting in a smoother finish.
