This seems like a wonderful concept for spark plug instalation. I bought this because I was tired of everytime I pull the extention off, the sock would stay attached to the plug. Well, it will still do it with this. Though, this is a tad bit stronger than your normal extention. The key secret is to no install the plug all the way into the socket. Insert the plug into the sprak plug socket, but not deep enough for the hex part of the plug to touch the socket. You can spin the pulg into the hole enough to start the treads, then pull the extention AND the socket out of the hole. Then, you need to switch to a normal sized socket, not the rubber pluged spark plug socket, to finish the installation and get the proper torque. It was a nice try Craftsman, but you only get two stars for trying. Maybe a stranger spring inside, or a snap type locking mechanizim would work better.

You need a set of these- even if you think you don't. Once you get them you'll toss them in your box and forget about them. The day will come when you have to stack a couple of extensions and their worth will become evident. Tired of pulling your plug socket off with a pair of pliers? You need the 3 piece 3/8 inch Drive Quick Release Extension Bar Set. There are some that are concerned about the use of plastic in the construction of this item and the possibility of dirt, grime and grease having an ill effect on the release of the socket. Based on my experience it has not created a problem or been a concern.

I spend a great deal of my spare time in the garage. Together with my son, Nathan (age 27) we buy and restore 1980 era Porsches. Nathan is the real mechanic in the family. I pretty much offer moral support and fetch tools. Most people would tell you that these import cars are a nightmare to work on. We haven't found that to be the case. The mechanical design of these high-performance vehicles is pretty straight-forward. That is a hallmark of the German craftsman and engineers that have developed them. It is true, however that these engineers are extremely efficient with their use of space under the hood. Large engine, small chassis and very light-weight create an environment that is sometime complicated to work in. We have learned that the best way to deal with this challenge is to own a complete collection socket accessories. Through the use of various extension bars, adapters and universal joints we can replicate the wrench configuration that was originally used to assemble the vehicle. Craftsman calls these tools accessories! I don't think that's right! The term accessary, to me, implies that it is a "nice extra" but not really necessary. Take it from me, if you are going to perform much mechanical work on a 1983 Porsche 944, a complete set of socket accessories is NOT optional.

I bought the extension set from a local sears outlet and was disapointed on the first use. I attempted to use the extesion set to change spark plugs when I got debris in the quick release mechanism. The mechanism jammed and would not hold a socket in place. It was a chore to clean the mechanism of debris and considering that the use of the extension set would involve more than spark plug removal I decided to return the set after one day of frustrated use. I bought a simple extension set that did not have the quick release feature, and I am happier due to fewer jams. I prefer a hand tool I can use under difficult conditions with minimal maintenance and is still capable of functioning at it's orginial capacity, which does not apply to this set.

These are nice extensions, but the locking feature does not work nearly as well as others do. I have snap-on and matco locking extensions that work much better then these, but those costs about 5 times more money. So for the price, there pretty good.

These locking extensions solve a problem that I struggled with for over 20 years in replacing spark plugs -- having the spark plug socket come off of the extension deep inside the engine while trying to install spark plugs. I'd have to get out pliers and try and grab the socket and release it from the plug. These extensions make the job much easier. The Sears store by me sells these individually as well as in sets of three, but having the set allows you to be ready for whichever length you need. Note - I found out one of my old spark plug sockets did not have enough of a dimple where the 3/8 drive fits in, so it did not lock on. My other plug sockets did have the dimple, and worked well.
