The 3 inch 36 grit belt worked great to remove the old plastic finish of a 40 year old sliding panel door without plugging up the belt. I wish I could get a 36 grit in a 4 in size. I finished the sanding with the 4 inch width sander using finer grit paper. The final paint then stuck much better to the door. I did not have to buy a new door. Using the two sanders worked great.

Be careful what you wish for, you may get it! Many woodworkers are impatient. I somewhat understand, because I find sanding a project to be the most tideous task too, but trying to rush your work by using this aggressive of a sanding belt can often lead to disaster. That said, there are times when you need a sanding belt of this coarseness. I reserve their use for only the hardest woods or projects where I intend to remove a great deal of material. Even under these circumstances, however, extreme caution needs to be taken in order not to ruin your workpiece. Never allow any distraction when using this belt. Keep your mind clear and focused on the work at hand. Always keep the belt sander moving. Even the shortest amount of time, setting stationary, can/will result in unwanted grooves in your project. My intention is not to scare you from using this belt. It is actually a very helpful tool accessory. I do want you to enjoy your woodworking activity and achieve the type of results that you can take pride in.
