GREAT VALUE SANDER!!
My dad bought this sander for occasional use. I don't think he's used it more than once, but I have used it at least a couple dozen times. This sander has probably gotten more use than it was designed for as an entry level sander at only $60. The dust collection system works great and is quick and easy to empty. I too, have had some trouble with the tracking. But this is not something that would stop me from buying this product. The tracking is adjusted by a little spring with a screw and so should not be compared to higher-end models. All you have to do is run the sander for a second or two holding it upside-down so you can see the belt and turn the tracking screw back and forth until the belt centers and stays. This is a great sander for the money, especially on sale. If you need to use it everyday then get a better sander and stop complaining about minor tracking adjustments. I would recommend this belt sander to any occasional or weekend woodworker.

Brushes & Melting Plastic
What I thought was a good value was not. Only used this belt sander a few times when the Brushes became so hot they melted the plastic cage that surrounds the motor. Everything inside is plastic. Bad design but I gues thats why it's only 70$

Belt Tracking Terrible

Unable to maintain belt tracking. Sander ate belts almost as fast as I put them on. Gave up after sanding about 30 sq ft of douglas fir. Also bag leaked like a sieve.

Well designed ... solid feel

All I can say is that my last Craftsman belt sander took a lot of abuse and lasted a long time. The main thing I look for in a belt sander is something that is at least 8 amp or 1hp or higher. This sander met my minimum requirements. I think it's a nice machine. Belt Sanders will always have trouble with dust so I never usually even consider that when buying a sander. It would be nice if the sander had variable speed control but I can live without it at this price. A also wish the belt tension release lever was made out of metal instead of plastic. This little guy seems like it's a nice prosumer tool. With good care and maintenance it should last me awhile. My last Craftsman was very similar to this one and I got a lot of use out of it.

works like a charm

my wife and I are stripping our 16X32 deck of 2 thick layers of deck paint. We have stripped as much of the paint that was loose and have used the sander for the rest. It's hard to believe but the deck looks brand new. This sander has done a fantastic job.

Craftsman Belt Sander

Bought as a referb from sears and that red plastic release lever quickly broke because its not designed to handle the pressure created by the spring. Sears took my $35 and for the evaluation and told me it would be $70 to fix. They refused to sell me the $2 part. This will be my last purchase from Sears as they have demonstrated that they don't stand behind their products.

The craftsman 3 x 21, 8 amp belt sander

Excellent performance and is very powerful. I found changing sandbelts was easy and I was pleased with the the results of my finished product. I was using this to sand an old existing work bench and have rennovated it to look new. I would highly recommend this as Sears craftsamn tools stands behind its name.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Lightweight and efficient sander

I recently purchased this sander for my husband when his finally konked out. He was amazed at how easy it was to use and how lightweight the sander was. He is working on a deck off of our porch, and he thanks me every time he uses his new sander. The price is very affordable also

Craftsman Belt Sander

I bought this belt sander because I had points on my frequent shopper card that were about to be removed. I found this on the Sears website and figured that I could afford to pay for the amount that my points didn't cover. I truely enjoy this belt sander as it works great and fits the common size belts that you can buy anywhere. It works great and has a dust collection attached to it for easy clean up.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

8amp belt eater

I bought this sander to sand down my front patio which the previous owner just continued schlepping more and more paint on. Now all our that paint is peeling off. I bundled this with a five pack of belts. Off to start the job.... started sanding and quickly broke a belt. Tracking was off and it shredded to the motor side. Okay fix tracking on the next belt once I put it on. Sand for a bit and another belt beaks. Not tracking this time. Put on another that breaks quickly. Lather rinse and repeat, my five pack is exhausted before finishing a single 4x4x8 post. I chalk it up to sears belts. Off to the local helpful plACE for more belts. Sand almost an entire post before breaking my first belt. Put on a new one which quickly breaks. Finally I realize the front wheel is scorching hot, hot enough that you can't keep a finger on for a second. This is probably a great light duty, non-continous use sander.
