Craftsman 30CC 4 Stroke Curved Shaft Trimmer
I bought my 30CC 4 cycle Craftsman trimmer a few days ago and so far it has been great, it always starts right up and runs great. The weight balance is a bit off but if that's not an issue to you it is a very nice trimmer. It has a lot of torque for cutting pretty thick weeds, the trimmer head that takes the strips of line is very easy to load and the thick line lasts a good while. It's a good trimmer for the price and I would recommend it.

so-so at best
Bought the 25cc trimmer first but had to many issues with it and after two returns thought I might be better off with the 30cc. Nope same shoddy motor. Unit fouled the spark plug so I cleaned it and it started back up. Next time I went to use it, again no start. Checked plug and cleaned it a little, still no start. Shot in some starter fluid and got it to break lose and it started. Next time I took it out it wouldn't start unless I held the gas on (which the directions tell you not to do) this is the only way I can get it to start. Took it back to Sears and they told me because I didn't buy the extended warranty it was no longer covered. Way to stand behind your products Sears! I will continue to buy hand tools from them but no more power tools.

Overall
Balance too far to the rear

Have used this trimmer about 10 times since purchase. Pros: Powerful, easy start, don't have to mix oil, shoulder strap included If it were not for the following "Cons" I would have given this a 5 star rating. Cons: Balance is too far to the rear. From an ergonomics point of view, it is very stressful on your wrist, as you have to pull up while working the trigger with one hand. You have to push down with your other hand which causes undue stress to the shoulder, elbow and forearm. If it were not for the included shoulder strap, this unit would not be manageable at all. Instead of developing a weed whacker for a 4-cycle engine (which by nature are bigger and heavier than 2-cycle), they used the same basic shaft design and length of the lighter 2-cycle. For a good balance, and therefore a design which would not adversely stress wrist, shoulder and elbow joints, the shaft should have been about 6 inches longer which would have allowed the shoulder strap to be located at the center of gravity (balance point). A personal preference is that I like the automatic feed style trimmer. I don't like the style used with this model, as it is impossible to maintain a uniform line length. I would not recommend this model to a friend, though I may end up giving this away to someone I do not know.

Overall
Too heavy

I thought this 4 cycle trimmer would be more convenient...no mixing of oil and gas. The problem is that it is way too heavy, and the weight is distributed toward the back so it was a constant fight to keep the head down and steady. I was exhausted after trimming a small yard. Thankfully, Sears took it back and allowed me to exchange for a smaller 2 cycle, which I have tried and love.
