I am very happy with the overall design of the machine. It handles well and is a pleasure to use. I think Craftsman has a great record for making quality products and they stand by their reputation. I would recommend this product to everyone.
Machine does the job well, however, controlling it leaves a lot to be desired. The chute joystick is over-sensitive in both azimuth rotation and height adjustment. The 1st fwd speed is too slow while the 2nd fwd speed is too fast and the 3rd through 6th fwd speeds are way too fast and not usable. Machine is too heavy and the hand levers are not well designed for good ergonomics.
I have an older version of this item. It is now in its 4th winter. Design flaws: The good: -It starts on the first or second pull always. The only time I use the electric start is to get it running in the fall after sitting all summer. -It's a good size for a large driveway but still compact enough to fit in the garage between the cars. -It seems pretty easy on gas/has a large tank. I can clear my large driveway 3 or 4 times without refilling. The bad: - The chute blocks the head light. So there's always big shadow in front of you. - Head light is not sealed so water can get in and blow out the bulb. I keep a supply of bulbs handy. - The power steering is utterly useless (it works but it is useless). - All of the forward speeds are useless. I only use the lowest for blowing and the fastest for travel. I never use the others. -Gas leaks out the cap very easily. -I had to replace the cable for the drive clutch. I think it was put together wrong because it just shouldn't have twisted like it did. (I bought the blower already assembled) -When I replaced the drive cable I loosed the bracket for the auger cable. Now I can not tighten the bracket because the holes the self tapping screws go into are too loose for the screws to tighten in. I'm currently trying to figure out how to fix this. Other thoughts: I had a 26 inch MTD for years. It was a tank. I never had any problems with it except I needed the electric start. I never could get it to start without it. I knew the same company that makes craftsman also makes MTD so I thought it was a good bet. Boy was I wrong.

I bought this machine prior to this winter - it has been flawless. Easy to use/start - throws snow a mile - has made my life much easier in snowy Wisconsin.
Purchased this through the layaway method and while a bit confusing it wasn't too bad. As far as the machine, not bad but there could be a few things changed. First item was when we went to pick the machine up. I called the store to verify that it was in fact there for pickup. I was told it was there in the crate but they would put it together for me if I wanted them to. Having dealt with items put together previously and since it would be transported 30 miles or so I declined. Fast forward 8 hours later and they could not find the machine.... Um, its in a crate eh... Once it was "located" both in the computer system and in the warehouse it was loaded into the truck and brought home. Unloaded the machine and proceeded to remove it from the packaging. The wooden "crate" structure within the cardboard covering was broken and there was a boot print on the cardboard inside. Guessing it was not treated well. Everything was intact and after looking over the instructions I put everything together. Overall not a bad process with someone that has mechanical knowledge. All the proper checks were made and then it was fueled and ready to use. Once it was started it did not run well. The choke had to remain partially on for it to run properly. I know that it is below zero here this evening and I expect that some adjustment will need to be made. I can do that but the average person may not know how. In defense of Sears, if they had put it together, they may have made that adjustment. Other than that the machine runs very strong. I enjoy the joystick control for the chute and find it works well so far. The light is ok but is sometimes blocked by the chute. Not a big issue but something to be aware of. There is also no light on the controls so unless you have a feel for them you need some extra light. While the machine is not built like a tank it seems well built at least by todays standards. For the money I am happy so far. I also thought the extra sheer pins supplied were a nice touch.
Owned this model for two seasons, beats any model I owned previously. Moves the snow without bogging down, throws easily where I aim, easy to maneuver for a fairly large machine. The heated handles just make it more fun. Highly recommend this model - if you have the square footage to use it.
I purchased this blower today were i live is out in the sticks we had 5 ft drifts between the barn and the house this was old snow frozen and hard it was very hard to do but i made a path drive way was 8 inches very easy i am very happy with this blower this is the second one that i have owned and the largest one
Picked up this beast yesterday to remove 3 and a half feet of snow pushed into the driveway by the local municipal plow... I cannot believe the power and the ease of this machine to remove all the snow and even the deep packed snow which was ran over by my expedition. I went from not have a shovel (because I broke it trying to remove the snow at the end of the driveway) to having this machine. It just works, starts right up and removes the snow without any effort on your part. I actually used one hand to control everything at one point. Best machine I ever purchased.
I purchased this snow blower 3 weeks ago to replace a 5 HP, 24" MTD. I have used it for 2-5" snow falls and a few 1" snow falls. I clear an asphalt driveway that 2000 ft. long and 11 ft. wide plus paths to bird feeders and sheds. The machine is very powerful and never falters in deep snow. I have tried it in snow banks approx. 20 " high and it does not bog down. The electric chute control works great and is one of my favorite features. Having the steerable feature on a machine this large is of great help. If you have not operated a snow blower of this size before, be prepared to do some practice to get the feel of it. I noticed in one of the reviews a complaint about leaving a ridge of snow, mine did that the 1st time I used it, but proper adjustment of the skid shoes corrected the problem. I am very happy with the fact that it cleans snow right down to the asphalt. I am very happy with my purchase and hope that it is durable and lasts for a long time with few repairs.
