Good starting set

Craftsman 37 pc. Tap and Die Set is a good starter set for your work shop. They are great if you have threads that are dirty or scuffed up and need to chase them to clean up. The threads will look good as new. The taps cut new threads pretty good also. Just drill the size hole you are needing and chose the tap to match the hole and cut away. I don't use these every day, but have used them on several different occasions and they have done their job for me. Use oil when cutting threads and clean the cutters up after you are done and this set should last you a long time. I have used them to repair broken anchor bolts on small engine blocks, where the bolts were broken off. I drilled out the old bold & recut the threads to was good as brand new after I was done. I have used them to thread battery boxes that I have made for small tractors and able to bolt them to tractor.  One thing that is needed is a thread guage to measure the size of threads you are working on. There are bigger sets available, but this set is just fine for the average user needing thread repair or needing to cut threads for a project. The plastic case with sliding door is pretty descent to keep the set together. I keep my set in the top of of my tool chest for easy grabbing when I need them.

Craftsman 37pc tap and die set case needs improvement
Only complaint is the case which is terrible. Does not hold the taps at all - so very easy to cause them to end up in a jumble. The dies however, have an iron grip that requires a tool to pry them out. I'd rather the taps were the same way at least. No labeling for size on the case so you have to look at the tools themselves which is not easy at all for the taps.

Tap Wrench Won't Fit All Taps

This set is not all bad, but for the price one would think they would fix a couple of things. First, the tap wrench will not tighten down small enouth to hold the smallest four or five taps. Fortunately, I have another tap wrench that does. I am irritated at getting some of the items out of the tray, having to get a screwdriver to start some so I can grab it.

Same warrantee, made in Ch!na, just not the same

I recieved this as a gift (upon request) only to find out it is now manufactured in China just like everything else. Very disappointed in that, but at least this set still has the unbeatable Craftsman warrantee. I will keep it now that I've had the opportunity to take a jab at Sears over its lame outsourcing strategy. Just so Craftsman knows, I would have paid like 5 bucks more for the USA set.

Love it, Use it

I've had this set for 40 years and use it a lot.  It would be perfect if I could keep my 35 year old son out of it.

CRAFTSMAN 37-PC. INCH TAP AND DIE SET 52343

Well, I have not used it yet, but it looks good in it's case. I have used them in the past and have not ever been disapointed. I have always used the Craftsman tool as it is sufficient enough to take on any task as other more expensive tools, in fact, I have had more problems with the other expensive tools failing, although I have gotten these other tools used. But even when you get a Craftsman tool used, you can go anywhere to replace it the same day, if in fact, it does fail. Other tools require a reciept, then you need to wait for it by mail. That is an inconvenience in my book, especially when it is not ok to wait for a repair to be completed. I would place my bet that most money making establishments go with the Craftsman product as waiting for a tool is just as good as losing money!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good quality, fine set for the average guy, Made in USA

This set does just fine for the casual user.  The taps and dies are actually of very good quality. My dad bought me this set years ago and I have always been careful to drill to the proper size before tapping, use Tap Magic and I have never had any problems cutting threads in aluminum or steel (1020 and below).   If you make your living in a machine shop, this set is probably not for you.  But if you are only drilling and tapping the occasional hole for repair or small fab project.  This set will be fine.  It should last a lifetime.  Made in USA
