Right size but only uses Type 27 grinder wheels not flat wheels
This small grinder is just the right size for most jobs in my garage. The size and weight make it comfortable to use and somewhat easier to handle than the larger 7" handheld grinders. Pro's: The side handle can be positioned at three locations, right, left and top of the grinder. This provides me better control of the tool for safety. The on-off switch can be moved to any of four locations by removing the four screws that hold the gear case to the motor housing. Carefully pull the motor housing no more than 1/4" away from the gear case and then rotate it to the desired positon and re-install the four bolts. Sears states in the operating manual that if the motor housing is pulled more than 1/4" away from the gear case then the whole grinder must be sent back to Sears for service. The manual states "Failure to have the tool serviced may cause brush, motor and bearing failure." The type 27 guard is easily positioned to locate the guard between you and wheel. If the disk were to shatter the guard offers some protection so you will not get hit by the disk pieces. Wire brushes and wire cups can be used with the tool. If the wire cup has a 5/8"-11 spindle the the mounting nut is not required. Con's: The grinding wheel fastening nut requires a spanner wrench included in the box. You cannot use a open end wrench or socket to tighten the wheel mounting nut. I suggest buying an extra wrench from Sears while it is still available. I know that most grinders use a spanner wrench but would like to see the option to use an open end wrench. The Type 27 guard requires the user to purchase only Type 27 grinding disks. These disks have a raised center hub and metal center ring. A flat disk known as Type 1 cannot be used with this grinder and guard. The type 27 disks are more expensive about $5 versus $3 for the flat disks. Requiring users to use the more expensive disks may cause some to remove the wheel guard. If the guard is removed then the user has no protection from the grinding wheel. The instruction manual clearly states the grinder must not be used without the guard with the only exception being when using rubber backpad sanding disks. Perform a ring test on any disk prior to installing it on the tool: Please use this this tool safely. Prior to using it watch the one of the many YouTube video's on what to wear (face shield and not just glasses) and how to grind metal properly so the disk is less likely to shatter. Perform a ring test on any disk prior to installing it on the tool. If you don't know what a ring test is then watch a youtube safety video. This tool can cause serious injury. It's a powerful tool that when used improperly can change your life for the worse. Emergency room doctors have written specific protocols for treating injuries caused by handheld angle grinders and specifically how to properly remove pieces of grinding disks from patients faces, forehead, arms and legs. A good tool overall.

Craftsman 4.5" Small Angle Grinder
Good Point: 3-Position Mount (Left - Top - Right) for Auxiliary Handle for easy use when left hand or right hand cutting/grinding. Bad Point: Excessive noise in cheap right angle Chinese gear set (which means poor alignment and excess heat for extended use. Returned unit to Sears and bought a Bosch small angle grinder.

For the bigger little grinding jobs

I already have the Craftsman C3 grinder, which is good for most of my small tasks. Even with the lithium batteries it doesn't necessarily have the oomph to complete every job I've thrown at it, so I picked this guy up on sale to do it for me. I've had a lot of cheaper angle grinders and this one's a notch up, and uses all the same wheels that my portable does!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Awesome Angle Grinder

I needed a angle grinder and didn't want to spend a lot of money on one. After shopping around and comparing specs, the Craftsman model was one of the best. It's a better deal when you get it on sale too. At home it did the job extremely well. The adjustable handle was convenient and blade changes were easy with the included tool. The grinding blade that they include also worked excellent

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not very good

Bought this grinder thinking it could do some easy brick cutting, but boy was I wrong. After about a half an hour of cutting brick pavers the motor start to get really hot to the touch. Eventually the motor seized and the whole thing felt like it was going to catch on fire and melt. Now I'm waiting to hear back from Sears so I can return it and get a refund hopefully, otherwise I'm going to start buying other brands like DeWalt.

Nice and light easy on the wrists but will not stand up to hard use.

One can buy a grinder that looks suspiciously like this model from the import store Harbour Frieght for less than 15 dollars.

Just What I Wanted

This item is perfect. Just the right weight. Not heavy. I wanted a light weight grinder and this is it. Size is right, too. Not a large grinder. I am very happy with this angle grinder. And it is a Craftsman: dependable and backed by the Sear's name.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great product

Just purchased recently. Have not had the opportunity to use it as a grinder yet, but I did put a 7" cut off wheel on it and was very impressed. The size fits well in my hands and is comfortable to use.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
