Overkill is never overkill when it comes to safety! 4 ton jack!

My last jack was an aluminum one....the frame broke while fully extended while jacking up my 1989 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup. Decided to go overkill after that. Bought this 4 ton jack and I believe that will never be an issue again.

Jack fails even under light use!
Bought this jack 14 months ago for home mechanic jobs like changing brakes, changing winter tyres etc. Great Jack at first. Used Jack less than a dozen times. Still looks new! Had no abuses, and kept in dry storage. Now leaking oil everywhere, on my garage floor; will not lift car. Sears warranty expired. I always buy Sears tools. I am sure Sears respect for tools will suffer based on this product. Buy someting that will hold up under casuall use. You will be disappointed with this product. I notice all the other reviews have the same problem. I should have taken their advice.

Really not 1 star

I have owned this jack for several years. It worked fine for the first few uses. Don't use a jack much, 5 or 6 times a year. After a year or so, the jack would not lift a load unless I bled it and bled it and bled it. I recall trying to take it back, and being told that it was out of warranty. I was able to make it work for a while. In January, I tried to use it and when it would not lift, I decided to adjust the screws that are labeled do not adjust. It worked great. I tried it yesterday, and it would not lift. I adjusted the screws a little more and lifted once. Then the same thing. So I adjusted some more and something broke. I spent hours messing with it, probably days over the past 4 or 5 years. It is scrap metal for me now and should have been a long time ago. What a waste.

Broke U-Joint

Used at home and lasted over a year until the u-joint broke. Called and Sears wanted to sell me the "new and improved" u-joint for $45 plus shipping. It sat for 2 years while I used another one. Found the same part somewhere else for half the price!

Heavy Duty Monster

The price was nice with my Sears Tool Membership. Checked prices and styles of other manufacturers's but this one did the trick. Why get one rated for less and pay the same price or more? I have to jack up a 1967 T-Bird that weighs in around 4600 pounds and this one will fill the job.

Great Unit

Needed to install a new set of rotors and needed a new lift after my old one gave out. Bought Craftsman based on their reputation and won't be changing any time soon. Also bought a great pair of jack stands after my brother in law refused to help me with out em.. I feel safe with this 4 ton but liked the extra safety.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Leaks Oil when new.

I bought this jack about 3 years ago. I use it a few times a year to do car repairs in my garage, change tires, etc. Shortly after I started using it it started leaking oil & made a mess on my garage floor. After about 12 more uses it leaked so much oil that I had to fill it up before it would work, and the oil would leak out again in a few days. It is a real piece of s*** and not at all what I would expect from Sears. By the way, the part number for this jack is 21450156. You can't buy a seal kit or any othe hydraulic parts, you have to order the entire hydraulic section which is called the power unit. The cost with shipping is more than the jack cost new, about $175.00.

Mine still works after 4 years, but I hate it more every time I use it.

I had a 20 year old craftsman floor jack that I loved. It failed on me right when I needed a floor jack, so I made the bad decision to go buy another jack rather than fix the old one. What are the things that drive me crazy about this jack? The quick lift feature sucks, the **** thing goes up so fast with no load on it that I am constantly having to lower it back down and reposition it. Then, when I start to actually lift the vehicle I have to pump it so freaking many times that I estimate that it takes twice as many pumps as my old jack... The saddle is too small, and I have to be really carefull to get it centered perfectly so the car doesn't fall off... The saddle needs to be wide enough that you can position it on the frame or crossmember and have the tabs outside... The tabs on the saddle are only 1.5 inches apart, so if the crossmember is any wider than that it will be resting on the tabs. This makes it risky to have the jack slip, it also puts dents in whatever you're lifting.

Great while it worked, which wasnt very long

Work as expected in my perosnal garage. I use the jack for basic auto repairs which is not much. After less than a year it lost a seal and no longer works.

Craftsman 4 ton floor jack

Do not waste your money on this jack.  Mine started leaking in year 2 of very occasional use.  It also appears that no parts are available to repair it.  I'm very disappointed in this product.
