I've owned several tool chest over the past 35 years and have found this 8 drawer premium 40" Craftsman to fit my storage needs perfectly. It's no nonsense, simplistic design approach helps it perform exactly as I need to organize, protect and be efficient with my valuable tool collections!
The unit is very solid, has ball bearing drawer guides that seem to work better with each tool I add (believe me, they are loaded down too), easy open latch pulls that lock the drawers securely closed, a great arrangement of drawer sizes and configurations to fit every tool I need, a clean and easy to maintain rust-resistant paint surface and as great a competitive price as you can find in any brand!
It's taken me years to establish a useful and sizable tool investment and with the matching middle chest and bottom rolling cart. I've created a tremendous Toolman's Storage Dream!
Craftsman tools have always been in my family and I have grown to appreciate good quality and a good warranty, however, sears quality has slowly been declining.
I purchased this box and the matching bottom for in-store pickup. When it arrived, I first went to the tool dept to look at it. I was so disgusted with the quality, I didn't even want it anymore (and I only paid $220 + tax) over 60% off. This box should would be appropriately priced at $199, and then a good deal would be $99.
I guess sears has decided that their Craftsman name is so good that it alone can carry the company. At least with the tools, if they fail (and they do more often now because the quality is slipping) they will replace them with no questions asked. Beware that it does not work this way with their tool boxes. There is no such warranty for these boxes.
Folks, you generally get what you pay for, unless you are foolish enough to overpay for these toolboxes (and then you just get screwed). If you buy these boxes, just know that you are getting mediocre at best. If you are fine with that, maybe this is the box for you.
For me, I'll go back to Snap On toolboxes. Yes they are expensive, but they are made in the USA still, and really will last a lifetime. Even the value line if far superior to Craftsman. If you can't afford Snap On, maybe try a used one. You'll be happier in the long run.

I checked this top box out at a Sears store before purchasing it for one of my sons. I thought he would really appreciate the "griplatch" feature due to the ease of opening each drawer. He's a Harley mechanic and needs to get to his tools without having to fight with opening a drawer. Tried the "glide" ball bearing but this was far superior. This is his graduation present when he graduates from college with his major in machine tool technology.

This item does not sit flush on top of the middle chest drawer. the security drawer becomes annoying because you need a separate key, if you change the locks to match.

After reading the reviews I decided to watch the toolbox for previous sales price of $265. Checked yesterday and what do you know, it was on sale. Still skeptical after reading about the decline of Craftsman quality i went to Sears to get hands on before buying. This is a nice tool chest! As if I wasn't satisfied enough with the solid feel of the construction and drawers while messing with it in the store, I was completely comfortable with the purchase when I had to load this into the car. I knew its weight before buying, but actually picking it up made it reality. This is a solid tool chest. Was considering Snap On and a few other US brands, but I am very glad I went with model. Sure there may be better, but it will come at a steep cost difference and this box appears more than capable to meet demanding use for many years. I might have to save my nickels for the bottom now;) Now if we could just get a petition together mandating all Craftsman hand tools be made in the US ... after all it was the Craftsman reputation that kept Sears from going under. Let's not let the quality, and pride of US ownership, take a backseat to outsourcing and profits.

Cannot complain about my decision to purchase this storage chest. Enough space depending on the amount of tools you own, or are looking to store. I am a mechanic with thousands invested in tools, and this box is capable of keeping my investment safe.

Picked this box up to add some more storage in the shop. Quality is on par with much more expensive boxes. For the people who commented on the dual locks. The second lock is a security drawer. Common on many shop grade boxes. When you work in a shop you need a spot to store the things you don't want to keep in the pockets of your work clothes. You can toss that in the drawer and keep it locked while the remainder of the box satys open for access. My only complaint is that if you buy a set in store they should include the rekey lockset with the purchase.
