We heat with wood. We have 12' long, 5' diameter bundles of slab wood delivered. Slab wood is the bark side of the tree sheared off before trees are cut into boards. We then needed an easy way to cut 36"-40" pieces off the slab wood (slab wood can be up to four inches thick). The Craftsman 40 volt, 12 inch rechargeable chain saw is perfect for our needs! The battery lasts about an hour (there's a meter right on the saw to show how the charge is holding out), which is about the time I have a day to cut the slab wood. I did the research - for our needs, the 40 volt saw was the one we needed. No other rechargeable saw I found on the Internet Searches was as affordable for the power required! Sears has done it again for us! Includes both the battery and the charger - the only thing you'll need is bar chain oil - be smart - buy it by the gallon!
I was a little wary of buying or using a cordless chainsaw. But, I've had problems with gas and oil chainsaws ( engine problems - fuel problems - starter cord and handle problems and tune up problems ). Plus, gas and oil chainsaws can be heavy and difficult to manage effectively. Also, the electric chainsaws have been underpowered, and require long, heavy and expensive electric cords. The electric cords tangle easily are difficult to manage and take quite a lot of room to store properly. They are also dangerous to use if you get them wet or it starts to rain. Also, if you connect multiple electric cords,, they can come apart at any time. Of course, the main problem with using electric chainsaws is the real possibility of cutting the cord with the saw. Finally, I decided to buy a rechargeable - battery chainsaw from my local Sears store. I was pleased with the ease and speed that the battery charged up. I was also pleased that the battery lasted a long time and the chainsaw did not seem to lose power. I was able to handle the saw with relative ease and with reasonable care did not feel in danger. I'm almost 70 years in age but cut down two trees and trimmed them so they could be picked up at my curbside. I cleaned up the saw put it back in the box and stored it away without feeling sore or tired. The blade is only 12 inches long but it did everything promised on the box and in the instructions and the warranty. I would recommend the cordless chainsaw from Sears. .............R.
This is a great tool. I wanted a chainsaw that would start without having to pull a cord. Because of the lithium ion battery this starts up every time. As a 70yr old woman, this is what I needed. I have a lot of tree trimming to do around here. Now I can do it. I'm so glad I bought this.
I got this to use around the yard to trim small limbs and shrubs. It does okay for that but not for anything too big because it doesn't go fast enough. I recommend it for small jobs. Its nice and light weight and handy and easy to just grab and go,that's why I got it.
I went to Sears to replace my old gas chain saw and decided to try this battery powered saw. I can get more than an hour of cutting before it needs to be recharged. And the battery recharges quickly, about 1 hour. The saw is lighter and easy to handle than my old saw. It also cuts as good as my old saw. I don't use my chainsaw often and my old saw required a lot of work to keep it ready when I needed it (gas stabilizer to prevent stale gas, avoid storage in humid garage, etc.). On my new saw, I pop in the battery and am good to go.
I bought this for my husband for Father's thinking that it was a gas driven chainsaw. He was hesitant, at first, as he has never used a cordless chainsaw before. He read the posted reviews and was willing to give it a try. He was very pleased with it's performance as he is now using it only around the house. We would recommend this chainsaw for the homeowner.

Best part is that it does not need gas, i.e. pull start, etc. The 40 volts gives it enough **** to do a small task, but don't expect to cut all afternoon. Takes time to recharge.
I'm pleased with the saw, it has plenty of power to cut small stuff. I was using it to cut useless construction lumber to fit in a burn barrel this week end. The saw came with a low charge and with in 45 minutes it was fully charged. Sunday I went to work. Sawed a lot of plywood, 1x and 2 x 4's say 40 cuts or so and it still had most of it's charge. Went to charge after I was done and the charger was dead. Manual says if this happens take it back to the store for a replacement. More to come after I get a new charger.
