Craftsman  42 piece 1/4 and 3/8-inch Drive Bit and Torx Bit Socket Wrench Set

As is always the case, my dad's set has everything you need. More than a standard set of sockets. This helps complete my set and since they are all in a case can be kept away from the standard sockets. Easier to find and use when they are needed which is not as often.

I own a 2002 VW Jetta TDI and I drive about 50K miles per year. Now the car is getting up there in miles and it requires more and more maintenance. VW LOVES torx and allen head bolts/screws.

I decided to buy this after getting tired of going to sears for each individual tool for each new project that I had to do on the car. The 5mm and 6mm allen bits tend to get rounded very easy. But with the hassle free warranty I don't mind. I always use a torque wrench when installing all fasteners on my car.

But when I remove some of the allen bolts, it just seems like the metal in the bit is too soft and gets rounded. At other times, the fastener gets rounded. In either case, I eventually have to use my craftsman bolt out kit.

There are two tools missing from this kit. The first one is safety torx bits. And second, some tripple square bits (head bolts, cv-joint/axle bolts).

I would never attempt to work on a VW or other vehicle unless I had this kit and a bolt out kit.

Bought this set because I bought a used VW beetle for my daughter and wouldn't you know everything is different. The set has almost every bit needed to work on the entire vw. Besides, you can't beat the hassle free warranty when one or two bits get fouled up. The smaller torque bits could be made of harder material, but again if you screw it up, they replace it free.

Set includes quick release ratchet, extension bar and 40 socket bits in various sizes. Comes with a fitted blow mold case for storage and portability.

I just purchased this item. The sockets that utilize the 3/8" drive work excellent. However, there is an adapter to convert it from a from a 3/8" drive to a 1/4" drive so you can use the rest of the sockets. The problem is using the 1/4" sockets with the converter. The converter is too big, that you can't even try and force them on.

I will be exchanging this product. I know for a fact Craftsman tools are excellent. Too bad I have to go all the way back.

I love this set.  I had to change my power steering unit. Unfortunately, most of the bolts were blind.  This set allowed me to match up the correct size with my eyes closed essentially.  Being both metric and english allowed me to match the correct size bolt to the correct socket simply by feel.  If there was movement, it was the wrong socket.  Thank god for the quality.  As a helicopter mechanic deployed multiple times, my wife bought me an off brand set and I had to return it because none of the sockets consistently fit a specified size bolt head.  When she finally went to Sears for the correct set of tools, the store went out of its way and mailed the set to me in theatre.  It is a real pleasure to know that I get customer service and always get the best tool for whatever problem I have to work on.  I will never buy any other brand name tool  and I will never recommend anything except the best tools I know,  Craftsman!!!!

Great workin mans tools but the price is getting out of hand. The working man is slowly going to have resort to a cheaper brand......
