Great Product
This mower is not good for a "Mechanically Mentally Challenged" people. Most people who buy it and don't like it are most likely attempting to have it do more that its design limits. Answer: buy a bigger mower. But for a half acre or less its great. The only thing I didn't like about it was the "pain in the backside" reverse engine cutoff switch. This cuts the engine if you put it in reverse with the blade engaged. But a simple examine of the F/N/R shift rod showed me how it worked and an easy non-evasive solution to this problem - a piece of 3/8 in. plastic tubing three inches long placed over the shift rod to insulate it from touching the engine cutoff contact solved this problem. Once I engineered this, I then bought the mower. The transmission and clutch is a bit touchy until the mower gets broken-in a bit. But after a half of a season it runs very smooth. The mulcher (extra purchase) feature is great too.

Not Good
Does a good job cutting, but the motor was cutting out. Service man came out, ordered a carburetor. Hasn't installed yet, but it ran good enough so I was using it, something happened and now can't even get the motor to turn over. Taking it back to Sears, if they will give me a new one I will try it, but if not want my money back :-(

Better than I deserve.

I did extensive online research between the 2900 and the Troy model but after seeing both first hand the Craftsman is better in many ways. First off the smaller Troy engine has plastic pipe before and after the carb. I wanted the Briggs name for sentimental reasons but after seeing the quality of Powermore 420 engine vs the Briggs, I knew that alone was reason to choose the Craftsman. The adjustable steering, built in deck wash and price sealed it for me. Thus far I am really impressed with this mower, it starts easily and runs relatively quiet and smooth.

Great little riding mower

I`ve had this for more than a year. It has worked very well, except for the cheap no fill battery went dead. We have to keep a battery maintainer on them. Once their charge gets too low; they will not chargeback. I replaced with a regular yard tractor battery. And I modified the hold down by sawing some off. I love this mower.

Excellent size mower for my application and a very good price.

The mower is very sturdy. The engine has plenty of power. The cutting height and speed controls provide an excellent range of settings.

Love it ! ! !

Had a similar mower in the early 1980's & loved it then. Sold it when I moved to a house with a very small yard. I am now a senior citizen with a half acre lot. Bought this one last spring and love it, too. This mower is easy to operate & to clean. It does a good job cutting & making turns. I use the medium speed and can leisurely cut my yard in less than an hour. I'd like to remind others that this mower is NOT a "hot-rod". If you have the need for speed, make sharp turns, cut in reverse, etc. then spend 2 to 3 times as much money and buy a professional mower.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

do not buy

POORLY MANUFACTURED. THE BRAKES GO OUT AND WHEN THEY DO THERE IS A SCREW THAT YOU NEED TO ADJUST SO THEY WILL WORK. DEFINITELY TOO DANGEROUS. BECAUSE THE GEARS LOCK UP YOU HAVE TO USE ALL OF THEM WHEN YOU ARE MOWING. PLUS YOU NEED TO DRIVE THE MOWER UP AND DOWN THE STREET ADJUSTING THE GEARS TO KEEP THEM WORKING. WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS PRODUCT

Nice Mower-Fixed issue with messy oil draining

Nice Mower for my flat 1/2 acre. Plenty of Power. Between the Legs shifting took some getting used to. If you do not want to deal with that messy oil drain plug and plastic chute when changing oil, Just order p/n 428287 Oil Drain Valve from Sears Parts Direct. It is inexpensive, and used on many other Craftsman tractors. Replaces the original Oil Plug perfectly. Just have to connect a small hose to drain easily into a container with no mess.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
powerful rear engine rider

I was skeptical about this mower but now I am pleased that it is so nimble and powerful. I have some 12 degree inclines in my front and backyard and I was concerned it would lack the power required to do these but there was no problem. i mowed at the next to lowest cut and had the mulching plug in and mowed with ease. The pros are as follows: powerful engine with oil filter; compact size; nimble; well-made. The cons are as follows: touchy clutch/brake pedal control; not as tight a turning radius as I would like; steering could be more stiff or offer more resistance as to avoid front end slide when wheels are turned sharply. Overall, my grade is good for what it does and it is a good value. ----Jim in Rochester, NY

Good mower

I really enjoy this riding mower, with two exceptions: 1- the reverse cut off. I am going to fix that myself. This mower does a very good job on my mostly flat lawn and it controls well with no skidding in tight turns. I am using the bags and they work well, too. 2 - One major problem is the oil draining. The gutter to drain the oil does NOT fit and oil is everywhere when I service it. Now I use a siphon pump and just pump the oil out into the old oil container. That is something that should be fixed on this mower.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

awesome Craftsman Speed Rider

We used it only once, but it operated very well. Our lawn is not too big, so its size is compatible. We've used a stand behind mower prior to this, so it's a real "step up". It's an ideal new toy to enjoy in our golden years.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
