I bought this one for the main yard. Will use it more often then the bigger one. It will go in between my decks and around the house. It starts easy has 5 deck adjustments. It has one speed but can go very fast. Makes a very good cut and leaves the grass looking good
My mistake for buying the cheapest mower available BUT it is a Craftsman and I've had very few problems over the years(I'm 61) with their products. This unit is clutch driven. Left foot only. No brake. no gas. As you release the clutch, you go. Depress, you slow and stop. Well, most of the time. The clutch is very touchy for one thing. Another is when you're wide open, your foot barely fits below the clutch to bring it up THEN forward for a safe stop. Some of the time it does not move at all. Forward. Reverse. Nothing. Sometimes if you "rock" the mower while in gear, it will take off unexpectedly. Other times you go nowhere until you eventually find the magic gar to move. This is really a dangerous design. I've already had a Tech out to replace the belts that kept slipping and he pronounced the unit fine. Since then its become harder to get in gear. Thanks goodness for the 3 year in-home warranty but it seems this model really really needs. If I could return it today, I would.
I purchased this product back in the spring and have two issues. The deck will drop without warning and team up the yard. More importantly the darn engine smokes and is really hard to start. The Sears service guy has tried to repair this thing two different times. Sears has always been known for quality but this machine is not a quality machine!
Had to push the Tractor off of the truck it would not go into gear. Delivery driver worked on it and found the belt was off. Once he got it on it went into gear. Not sure how much faith I have that it will stay on. Ordered deck wheels to go with it that were listed on the Web Site with the tractor. They do not fit this deck and I will have to return. Having the mulching blades put on tomorrow but put the plug in it tonight and mulched the leaves and it did a faily good job with just the standard blade should do evern better with the mulching blades that I purchased with the Tractor. The tractor came completely assembled much to my surprise I thought there were things I would have to do. Very happy about that. Even installed the bagger which I also purchaed. May feel better and increase number of stars later but concerned when right off the truck it wouldn't go in gear. Time will tell but first time cutting went very well.

The Craftsman 42" Step Through Frame Riding Mower adjusts and starts easy. The smaller cutting surface works great in a larger yard, but is not too wide to get around obstacles. The turning radius is excellent for the size machine. It makes quick work of a 100' x 200' yard. The only thing that I need now is the mulching kit, because I recycle my clippings.
Never thought I would need a riding mower, bad hips forced this purchase and am I totally glad I have it. What took 1 1/2 hours to do, I now do in 20 min. and it fits even the tightest spots in my yard. Cuts great. What a leg and time saver!
I purchased this Mower last year Feb 2013. After getting to use the mower just a few times the summer of 2013 the engine went out in it. Sears finally replaced it with a new Mower in Sept 2013. This year 2014 again the engine went out again. This is my Second mower with the 420cc engine. Please Don't waste your money... Engine on this PRODUCT IT IS A PIECE OF JUNK.... Very unhappy Customer
