      Good little mower
Bought this mower for my 2 acre lawn with rolling hills. The 19hp engine is a bit loud when in a bind. It cuts well but does have frame flex. If you are looking for a manicured lawn, this mower isn't for you. But if your looking to throw some grass and have the neighbors wondering what you just started up this is for you. Its not the fancy city boy mower. This mower is simple, easy to work on, and a bit jumpy when letting out on the clutch, "it will pull a wheelie" if you let out on it quick. For a country boy who has owned many of the top brands out there this mower fits the budget. The ************* is why I jumped onto the buy. Overall a good mower, a bit loud when lugged, a stout 19hp engine that is stronger than the 22hp I had before, uses a bit more fuel than other mowers, cuts well, and very easy to steer.

      Do Not Buy!!!!!!!!!!
This unit has a design flaw in the gear selector linkage. After 3 hours use, the linkage broke and I had to go and buy parts to repair so I could finish cutting my grass. This was half way into the second cutting of my grass. It took me all day to do a 2 hour job and also cost me extra money to make a temporary repair that lasted just long enough for me to finish cutting my grass and then broke again.

These are really nice little riding mowers.

I decided to purchase it because of several reasons. The cost of big repair parts like transaxles are cheaper compared to other models and the transaxle is not made out of plastic. It has a manual geared transaxle, large capacity fuel tank, single cylinder engine, and 42 inch mower deck. I like the way it starts right up and the engine says made in USA from global components. It can really discharge leaves and clippings quite a ways from the mower chute. I measured the thickness of the mower deck to be 12 gauge thickness but it is including the paint. The lower the gauge number the thicker the sheet metal. They made the hood with too thin of sheet metal and it is flimsy. It is not an automatic or a shift on the go version but it gets the job done at a more economical price. You have to stop and push in the clutch to change gears. The turn tight steering has worked good so far. Rolling it backwards out of storage without it running was unusual because the front wheels wobble. I am new to the ROS system and I prefer to be able to mow in reverse without having to throw a switch. These mowers are more simple compared to the others with electronic circuit boards. I like a plain, simple, reliable, economical mower without high priced repair parts. Be sure to change the engine oil after the first 5 hours of operation and to maintain it properly. I liked the way Sears backed the product compared to other places that drop people.

Not what $1400.00 should be worth...

I am on my 3rd muffler, 2nd carburetor, and 2nd set of drive belts. Not at all sturdy enough for only 2 acres. Thank goodness I bought the care plan or this mower would have cost 3 times the original price. Would not recommend this mower.

      42" 19 hp riding lawnmower

nice item, 19 hp motor powerful. great for 1 acre lot. only negatives are i prefer the automatic transmission over the 6 speed manual and you have to purchase the mulching kit extra $50.00. should be a built in feature after initial purchase cost of $1400.00

      So Far So Good

This mower is a replacement for the same make and modle pauchased less than a month ago. I had to return the other one because after using three times the clutch and break went out and it would not go in gear. I returned it and they replaced it, no problem. We have used it a few times now and so far so good.

Tight turning radius is much better than my 10 year old Sears tractor.

I ran my old one to a tragic death because we ran it a whole day with little or no oil in the crankcase due to an unseen oil leak that froze up the cylinders. I need it to tow my Cyclone Rake* around my property to clean up tons of leaves each fall. Only one acre, but approximately 150 bushels of leaves each week in the fall mowing season. I've only used it several times and it works very well. I took out the 5 year warranty and maintenance program because the sales rep said even flats are covered, that was my biggest issue with my old tractor, I kept on having flats and since I'm now retired, I don't want the problems of self repair as I assumed for the last 45 some years.

      Craftsman 42" Garden Tractor 917.20380

Had not been able to cut my grass for over three weeks due to old (12 years)Craftsman LTD1000 having lost compression and not starting. After wasting money on a carb and gaskets and many hours I bought this product. I mowed our acre yard quickly even with the six inch high growth. Was not bagging but still amazed at the power and speed of this low cost tractor. Did not bog down once and didn't seem to break a sweat even in the high 90 degree heat. The clutch action is abrupt but I learned to deal with the short engagement section of the travel and it became much easier and smoother.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
