Craftsman 42 in. Zero Turn Riding Mower Turns with Ease

A large yard with many trees is no match for the Craftsman 42 in. Briggs & Stratton™ zero turn riding mower. Turn the mower with ease, left or right, with the lever lap bar that controls the dual transmission. The high-performance mower goes up to 7 mph in a forward motion and 3 mph when in reverse. A 3-gallon gasoline tank powers the dual-powered engine that is designed to minimize vibration and increase power.

The Craftsman 42 in. zero turn riding mower is able to cut grass up to 4 in. This is because of the deep dome cutting deck. The depth of the cutting deck can be raised and lowered to cut grass anywhere between 1.5 in. to 4 in. Clean-up is a cinch thanks to the built-in washing system that can clear the blade of grass clippings and debris. Cutting the lawn is no longer a chore.

      • Craftsman 42 in. Briggs & Stratton™ zero turn riding mower holds up to 3 gallons of gas
      • Lever lap bar controls direction of mower with ease
      • Maximum speed of 7 mph forward and 3 mph backward
      • Cutting deck adjusts with lever to cut grass up to 4 in. tall
      • Fuel gauge on dashboard for easy viewing
      • 22 HP in a V-twin engine minimizes vibration and increases power
      • 3-in-1steel blade is 19 in. wide
      • Built-in washing system clears grass and debris from underneath deck

      Good mower lots of fun
This is my first zero turn and so far I love it . I mow my yard and a neighbors yard ,it used to take me about 1.5 hours to just mow the 2 yards with my snapper mower ,with this one it took me just over 30 mins ,it's fast and has a good cutting area .i hear a lot about the no reverse mowing complaints but it did not effect my mowing much it only shut off the blades 1 time when I drove in reverse completely but for all other turns and some short back ups the blades stayed moving .it does use a lot more gas than my little snapper re but it is worth it for the time it saves .it seems very heavy duty but had a nice ride to it not to rough.overall I am pleased with my purchase

      Disappointed in Craftsman (and Sears)
Gave it one because giving it none is not allowed. Not sure what's going on with the Craftsman line, but they are losing a customer for sure. Purchased this mower on May 24th. Brought it home and did not get a chance to use it the first day. HOWEVER we noticed after we got it home that the sidewall of the rear tire had been plugged. The next day we fueled it up and read the book in order to become familiar with it as this was our first ZTR. Husband takes it out and notices that it does not back up correctly and it makes an awful noise on the left side when the handles are open. I call in service on the 29th, and the appointment is set for June 18th. Repairman just left, THE TRANSMISSION IS BAD. The mower is brand new!!! This was our SECOND bad purchase in the span of about 3 1/2 months. We originally purchased a walk-behind mower. $1600 mower. After the 2nd use it would not start. Took a month for service to come out, they replaced the battery and we used it once and the battery started dragging again. We returned it and upgraded to this and for the transmission to be bad from the outset is not acceptable. Of course service tells you they can get a new transmission in a month, but why would I replace the transmission in a mower that is less than a month old?!? This whole thing has been a huge ordeal: making sure someone was here to meet the repair person plus having to load up the equipment to bring it back...TWICE. We have always been a Craftsman family. Always. But I am finding they no longer represent the quality Craftsman has always been synonymous with. Sears wonders why they are struggling? This is it! Bring back quality please!!!

All I hoped it would be

All I hoped it would be... It's fast & fun. I have 1-1/2 acres with trees and there isn't enough room to get up to top speed. I have had it 6 months and I am very pleased so far. Lots of cutting power. Lots of speed. Nice, even cut. Turns on a dime. Very responsive. Fun to ride. I have nothing bad to say at this point. Six months ago I heard the mulch kit recommended for this mower didn't fit properly. I hope that problem has since been corrected...I don't know yet. I would highly recommend this mower. And, I think the price is quite reasonable. I have used my neighbor's $7000 Grasshopper many times and this $2300 Sears Mower (42" 22hp VTwin Briggs and Stratton Zero Turn Riding Mower) is every bit as good with speed, cut quality, steering, responsiveness, fun. This Sears mower does not cut in reverse which I wish it did but I can live with that.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

We had a lot of issues with Craftsman Zero Turn Mover

Don't purchase this product. We had so much difficulty with it. The first mover we purchased was defected, it didn't start and wasn't working at all. After many calls to Sears finally they brought us another mover to replace. We only had the Mover for 11 months and used it for 3 months during summer. My husband was cutting the grass when the front tire blow up and mover was flipped over. My husband got hurt but was able to control the mover and keep it back to a standing position. We called Sears to order a new tire. By the way, if you are thinking you can find the tires elsewhere you may want to think twice. We tried every stores through online and local stores who repairs and carry parts for all type of Zero Turn Lawn Mover, and had no luck. Sears doesn't carry the tires you have to buy the entire wheel in which cost more. Sears also didn't have the wheels in stock so we had to order online and they said it will be shipped to the house within 3-5 days. We didn't receive the parts after 5 days we kept calling sears parts dept. and finally after 3 weeks they told us that the part is on back order and they don't know when it will be shipped. We are still waiting for the parts. My recommendation is when you are thinking to buy equipment or appliance from Sears, please think twice.

The zero turn is the only way to mow!

Even with the extra speed of the lawn tractor format, this zero-turn mower runs circles around it...much more maneuverable...and the total time much faster. I'll never buy anything else than a zero-turn mower.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not so great - the Sears side anyway

I've tried to write this review once but it was denied, mainly because the review focused on the poor service received from Sears. Abridged version of the story: Ordered at the end of May, received the mower about two weeks later. After four hours the left rear tire went flat. I called asking for service but was informed that it was a new item that failed immediately - the whole unit had to be replaced. 2nd mower is delivered, after two days the left rear tire is flat on the new mower. This one also did not drive straight. The independent transmissions were out of alignment. They did not want to send one to service it, they wanted to replace the whole thing again. I told them to just pick it up for a refund. Overall, the quality of the Craftsman name - outside of hand tools - has significantly declined. I have since returned the mower and purchased another brand that I'm happier with.

      Great Mower

I always liked the look of walk behind mowers but this zero turn mower does it better. It is fast and cuts very even. My lawn never looked better. The best part is that it makes mowing fun and I wish I had more to mow. I beg my neighbors to let me mow they're lawn. I like to mulch and there is no trace of grass after I mow. The mulch kit attachment does have issues like other reviews but I attached another strap to hold it on in 5 minutes and in the opposite direction and it works great.... Not an issue now. I applied a 9" rubber strap and used a lawn bag holder clip to attach it to the mower... ask your local dealer for a clip. It took me about 10 minutes to learn to drive this mower.

      Great mower

I have only used it twice now but this mower is truly the best I have ever owned. Would like to have had headlights like some other models but it's ok without it. My wife thinks I am crazy because I am now having FUN mowing my grass again. Cranks right up from the showroom and the Briggs V-Twin definitely is a work horse. It is a little loud but hey, it is a mower not a hybrid car. I would definitely recommend this mower to anyone that has a 1/2 acre or bigger.

      Good mower for the Money

This is a good mower for the money. It's not commercial grade but very close to it. I've used it several times and it appears to be holding up well. I don't baby it either. Two things I don't like about it though. The book says that if you mow in reverse the blades will stop and start back up when you go forward again. They will but you have to turn the sw. off and back on again. It's not a major problem but it should operate the way the book says. It would really help if the had an 800 number to call for problems like this. The tires seemed to slip to easy even on dry grass. Luckily I had been warned about this by someone who had this problem with another mower. It seems that everyone assumes the tires should need 32 lbs. of air like a car tire. I checked mine ,sure enough they had 32 lbs. The side wall of the tire calls for no more than 10 lbs. It didn't completely solve the problem but it's way better. Better ride to. And one more thing . I wish they still printed a parts list in the manual like they used to. Overall though I consider it a real bargain. Once you get used to it you'll never go back to the tractor type again. Of course time will tell if it holds up as good as I think it will.
