I am now on my fourth unit and am still not satisfied with this product. The first one appeared to have something wrong with one of the blade mandrels, since one side cut an inch lower than the other, and could not be properly adjusted by Sears' technician. In fact, he made the situation worse by overadjusting the rake, causing the mower to scalp my lawn the next time I used it. A second was delivered, but without the $300 bagger attachment that was purchased. A third was delivered with a broken throttle, rough idle and disconnected transmission. The fourth was delivered one month after the original purchase and has been used twice thus far. Although I leveled the mower deck with a bubble level in addition to measuring the blade height, one blade still cuts 1/2" lower than the other, leading me to believe it is a design flaw from the manufacturer, Husqvarna. Since I have a bagger unit, one might think its weight would make a difference, lowering that side of the blade deck. However, it is the other side of the deck that cuts lower. One might consider a 1/2" to be nothing to squabble over, but I have Empire Zoysia sod which shows every imperfection of the cut. Another problem with the mower deck is something a previous reviewer noted: In Florida, we cut our grass taller than in other parts of the country to avoid it burning in the summer, but this deck cannot be lifted high enough to cut the grass at a desirable height. And even with having the guage wheels lowered as far as they will go and the deck set at the highest level, one side of the mower will scalp the lawn when traveling over the slightest of slopes.
Other than the cut, this tractor appears to be a reasonable value for the price. It runs good and smooth, is comfortable to sit on during an hour's worth of cutting, has a good turning radius, has a reverse cutting feature that many new tractors do not have, and the hydrostatic transmission is quite easy to use. Other faults include the fact that the turning radius is so tight, you can easily roll over the front wheels if going faster than a crawl when attempting to execute a tight turn, the tires could be larger or knobbier for a better grip on slopes (the tires tend to lose traction very easily), and the gas guage (actually, a hole in the frame that the gas tank can be viewed through) is not usable since the material that comprises the gas tank is opaque and the gas level cannot be determined. Cutting tall grass must be done twice, especially since one of the blades doesn't want to cut as well or at the same height as the other. If the cut was even and consistent, I would recommend this tractor, but after having four of them in a month's time all exibiting the same cutting problem, I must assume this mower simply isn't made for the kind of grass I have.
An even bigger reason I will not recommend this purchase is the customer service I received from Sears. From the nine hour day I spent waiting for the technician to arrive to improperly adjust the mower deck to the attitudes and incompetence I encountered while on the phone a total of six hours during nearly a dozen calls to bring these issues to a conclusion, I have never seen a lack of customer service from another retailer as I have from Sears during the purchase of this item. One would think they may experience a lack of service after purchasing a $10 item, but not after making a nearly $2,000 buy. Even the case manager who talked me into trying the fourth unit promised to call me the day of delivery and failed to do so, prompting me to call back once again a week later to find out if the case was still open. Due to the number of units delivered that had to be tried, I lost over $15 worth of gasoline in the first three units, I have to replace several areas of my sod that were scalped by the technician's improper blade deck adjustment on the first unit, I had to take a day off work without pay and this does not address the aggravation, frustration or time that this entire experience has cost me. They offered me a $50 gift card for my trouble.
In the past year, I have purchased expensive, new appliances from Sears, including washer and dryer, refrigerator and dishwasher, and was planning on purchasing a new stainless steel range and microwave to finish ungrading my kitchen. After this experience with Sears' customer service, I must state that they have lost the next and all future potential sales from me, my family and friends until they change the way they provide customer service.
I work the fool out of them and have only one persistent problem, sears' drive belts just dont work so I keep a supply of Gate's belts and replace it once a year. I dont buy the warantee because it costs more than fixing it myself and Sears overprices replacement parts.

Excellent power, easy foot control of forward and reverse. Reverse kill switch can be set to On or Off depending on safety concerns. Super-tight turns. Only one problem, but it was fixed, no questions or cost to me, under the 2-year warranty: the engine would not start occassionally. After a year, the problem got worse, I called Sears Service and a tech was on site that day. The problem, he said, is known on early V-Twin B&S engines and all it took was a choke linkage adjustment that he did in 10 minutes. Starts everytime now, cold or hot! Very good value machine.
I got this tractor after reading reviews happy with it BUT after only 60hrs I'm on my 3rd drive belt! Really Sears. If it didn't eat belts I would give it 5 stars, they don't break they stretch. The first time it went out a Sears Tech come out and changed it and said that this a common problem with the belts. So Sears why have you not fixed this problem??? I am now looking for a belt that will fit that is not made or supplied by Sears that fits.
Bought this tractor thinking it was going to be the same caliber as my last 42" Craftsman. 10 years ago I bought a DLT 2000, excellent machine. They really cut corners when they made this new one. Customer service is non-existent in this area. I called to have this new tractor repaired and was told it would be two and a half weeks before they could come. I brought it to the service center and was told they don't have technicians there to do repairs. I'm done with Sears, it's too bad, they used to have quality products.

Strange cut height setting engineered into this... I'm at #5 of 6 and surely wouldn't be cutting any shorter. It takes some tuning of the deck wheels to get the thing cutting very evenly. The OEM blades seem to dull very quickly. I have a flat yard so the traction don't bother me in that regard but the slight lip going into my garage can have a wheel spinning (on cement!) if I don't approach with some momentum. I'm a big guy and provide plenty of ballast so it's a mystery about the lack of traction. The motor is smooth, in my opinion and certainly has plenty of torque for the 42" deck. My headlights didn't work when I got the machine but a Sears tech (after some scheduling fumbles on Sear's part) got that sorted out. For my relatively small yard, this should last many years. It's not sturdy enough for heavy use as the frame is a bit frail and the steering feels a bit flexible but for the market and price it's built for, I feel that it's an excellent value.
I purchased this mower about 4 years ago. It was pretty good till the warranty ran out. Have replaced the thing that hold the blade on, and then it got to where it wouldn't run. Called Sears and they said they would send a technician out. The cost would be something like $95 for the call and parts. No parts were put on, he found a push rod had came off. He checked it over and handed me a bill for a little under $300. 2 days later the push rod fell off again. I fixed it myself. Kept repairing it , then just parked it in the shop. Evidently the valve is sticking, so I took the valve spring off and soaked the valve stem good with penetrating oil. That helped for a little while, then started all over again, then the valve stem on both sides started coming off. Had put in super slick guaranteed oil in it, didn't help. Just old to care, but you can bet your butter money on it, I will never get another from sears. Think they should paint them yellow :(
I purchased this lawn tractor 3 summers ago (2 years). I like it's performance, but both the blade housings cracked the first and second summer. This summer it's the steering that's busted. The parts I ordered came in wrong. Now I have to wait another week to get the correct part. I'll probably have to bale the grass then.
When I got my tractor it was stalling after using about a gallon and half of a full tank of gas and the tank still had at least a gallon in it. Sears sent me a new gas cap, but that did not work. I found that the feed tube in the gas tank was defective from the MFG. The hose in the tank is made of plastic and not rubber and was crimped when assembled at the factory. This caused the tube, which is fussed on the rubber gamut to narrow the fuel path and not reach the bottom of the tank. It's like having a straw in your soda bent in half and you trying to suck the beverage through it. Once I straighten the tube as best I could and restarted the engine it runs so much better and starts on the first crank. This solved so many problems that I was having with the tractor engine. A 10 cent part that can cause so many problems. I will have the technician order a new gas tank, as I cannot get the part separately. This is not Sears fault and I blame AYP (American Yard Products) as this shows just bad workmanship at the factory. Hay Sears if you're listening you know what you have to do. My tractor is the YT 4000 and the tank, feeder tube and rubber gamut is under the seat.

no traction ,no good if you have an uneven lawn with hills. steering is also poor didnt take long for the front wheels to both be turned out at the same time . frame broke where back axle bolts on ,had to weld thicker metal to the frame . have owned craftsman lawn tractors before they were much better then this one ,probably the last craftsman I will buy
