Excellet buy!
I've used this mulcher 3 times. I've cut a very bumpy 1.2 acre. The mulcher works great. I read other reviews about the discharge block coming off the mower. I believe they installed the rubber strap incorrectly. The stud that the rubber strap connects to should be installed with the stud down and the nut on top. This puts good tension on the discharge block to hold it in place. The mulcher fits Craftsman LT1500, Troybilt pony, and Murray 42" 17.5 HP mowers.

Good blades, horrible plug

Spoke with the sales associate we bought our 42" zero turn and this mulch kit from and he said I was probably the 3-4th person with the same exact problem. The mulch plug is a joke when it comes to fitting on the existing side chute cover, I barely have the plug on currently and just waiting to hit the incorrect bump for it to pop off. The blades are nice, but without a good quality mulch plug the blades are pointless. Just mowed our lawn 3 times so far with the mulching kit and most of the grass shoots out of the pockets that are formed when trying the get the plug fitted...does craftsman/sears even check their products prior to incorporating them into production??

difficult to install

I purchase this item for a zero turn mower and found it to be very difficult to fit, I had to make adjustments by drilling holes and using wire to get it to stay in place. The design of this item is faulty and should be re-evaluated for zero turn tractors.

Craftman 42" Mulch Kit

Did not fit...I blame myself for not researching...bought this Mulch Kit for my 42 in cut Craftmans lawn mower...apparently they must be several different versions for a 42 inch cut...I blame Sears for saying this kit fits all 42 " cut riders...Check your model numbers before purchase...that is all....kinda pissed...***** would not have done me like that

Poorly designed plastic housing and rubber strap; poor dealer information

The mulch housing and rubber strap are horribly designed and ruin an otherwise good mower. The mulch housing comes loose all too frequently -- out of desperation, I finally drilled 8 evenly-spaced holes through the plastic housing and deck and used stainless wire to securely connect the deck to the plastic mulch housing. That finally solved the problem. They don't carry replacement blades at my local store in Key West. No one at my local Sears store knew which blade to order so yesterday I had to buy another mulching kit just to get one new blade (UGH!!). I like the mower -- I hate the mulching kit though I will say when it stays intact it does a nice job.

Leaves rails

Leaves trails and you have to go back over the yard to blow them into the grass. Really poor fitting deck plug that does not fit well and uses a big rubber strap to not hold it on well. Disappointed.

Mulchkit for a 42" Deck

This was very easy to install. I recommend this kit. I spent three years using a bagger. Mulching is much easier. This kit fits many models, mine is a 2007. 2010 and above take a different one. 15 minutes and I was ready to go, change the blades and put the guard in place. The only tools you need is the wrench or socket to remove and replace the blades.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

It's OK

Frankly I've seen better engineered Mulch plugs but once you have it on it works well. The strap to secure it is pretty hokey. Seems like they could have spent a couple of bucks on some latches. I've used it about four times now and it stays on and does the job.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Works very well

Blades install just fine. The discharge cover fits very snug and is a challenge to get seated with the elastic strap on. I recommend fitting it several times without the strap to make sure you know exactly how it seats. Then muster all the strength you can to fit it with the strap on. Once on it has stayed seated through many mows over rough ground. The kit cuts very well for me. Difficult to install, but I'm very happy with the way it cuts and mulches.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
