Product Description
For 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8 and 1/2 in. O.D. tubing. Recommended for Bundy and other annealed soft steel tubing (wall thickness up to 0.035 in.). This tool also makes single or double flares in soft copper or aluminum tubing. Small, lightweight and easy to handle. This tool is made up of a steel yoke and swivel-type hardened steel, chrome-finished flaring cone. The ball thrust bearing in the flaring cone minimizes friction, making operation easier, and the bar provides a positive grip on the tubing. Includes plastic tool case.

After reading some of the reviews, I had some reservations about purchasing this flaring tool.
But after comparing this item with others at various retail stores I found this to be of much higher quality. Most others were low quality, imported tools that had an insubstantial feel and just looked cheap. I decided on the Craftsman set and have not been disappointed.
I've made several flares with different types and thicknesses of tubing and have not experienced any of the issues that others have mentioned. I did not break any adapter shafts nor did I have any incidents with the tubing slipping out of the flaring bar. The instruction sheet clearly states that the rod of the yoke can be used as a lever to tighten the wing nuts which I did. Even without the extra tightening, the flaring bar seemed to have a strong grip on the tubing. All of the flares I've made have come out as well as expected and I have no regrets about purchasing this item.
Although this set is more expensive than the imported brands, the quality, performance and lifetime warranty far outweigh the additional cost.

not what I expected from craftsman

I bought this double flaring tool after an inferior tool purchased at a local auto parts store failed to produce a single correct flare. The quality of the double flares produced with this tool are equal to or better than the flares on store bought brake lines. Sure, it was twice as expensive, but that's money well spent because the tool worked as expected and has a lifetime replacement warranty.

This tool works well. I replaced every brake line on my entire truck and used this tool for all Double Flares.

My Van sprung a leak in the 1/4" brake line to the rear, I went with the $25 ************** tool first plus an inverted union and a few feet of 1/4" brake line to splice the old line with the replacement from the a.b.s. box back. You get what you pay for, the tool bent and wouldn't hold the old line in place at all, plus one of the wingnuts broke, managed to only get a single flare out of the new line. This Craftsman tool is solid, thicker, looks better than the ************** tool and most important it works. This tool allowed me to press a new 45 degree flare on the old line (while still installed on the van) with no problems at all, flaring the replacement line was gravy. It's great to see Craftsman offering amercan made tools again. What good does a cheap tool do you if it doesn't do what it's supposed to? This tool works, I Recommend it.

A good tool, price is right. I mainly use for 3/16ths brake lines and after using the small tool that is inserted in to the tube the small nipple broke. Returned the WHOLE kit to Sears and the whole kit was replace. I do not mine if a tool brake once in a while as long as the manufacture stands behind their produce. Would buy again.

It works, the main body has a nice chrome finish. This tool would really stand out if the press portion of the tool was finshed the same way.

I have used a few different and more expensive flare tools over the years but this one is just as good as the high dollar ones. The handle gives you a bit more leverage too. Good job Craftsman.

Incredible tool. Very stout construction and easy to use. Makes perfect flares everytime. What surprised me more than anything was that Craftsman honored the warranty on a 30+ year old flare tool and replaced it with this one. No questions asked!! Thats standing behind your product.

I purchased a less expensive model at an auto parts store and it simply did not work. The 1/4" tubing I was flaring was too small for the previous tool and kept coming loose. It was a waste of time, tubing and money. This one was a little bit more money but it got the job done right the first time. It was well worth it.
