Got two years out of the last set of these I used. Performance was much better than the Craftsman high lift set it replaced. This blade set does a better job of mulching than previous styles.
The blades are high quality steel. This is the second set of them I have purchased. They last for years with minimal upkeep and perform very well.
Craftsman 46 in. Advanced Mulching and Bagging Blade Set. Blades work great. The description is right on. Delivers greater mulching and bagging performance. Fewer dumps when bagging grass clippings. No more clogged shoot when bagging. Cuts great.
I was pretty anxious to see how these performed in contrast to the original stock mulchers on my 2013 LT2000. Imagine my surprise when, after dropping the mower deck, I discovered that the end of the spindle where the blades are mounted is shaped like a six point star. If you look closely, these blades feature a five point spindle mounting "star" thingy. (Much cursing followed) Back to the store they went. What baffles me is the amount of mower blade part numbers I see on catalogs and this site, yet none seem to match. Speaking of stars, I'm giving this 1 because of the funky spindle configuration that was a complete unknown until I had the things pulled off.
I bought these to replace regular hi-lift, discharge blades - I'm mowing 2.5 acres, and it grows quick, and I was tired of mowing then having to go back over it with a bagger (have tried the discharge baggers as well, have to empty too often). They discharged well, so I bought the mulching kit to see if they would indeed mulch high grass - and they did. Worked great, left little trace of grass.
Exactly what the hubby wanted. He was having problems with the grass getting clogged in bagged. This eliminates that problem it cuts the grass smaller no more getting frustrated!
I ordered these for my mom (who is 65) normally older people have the reaction of "I'm older I don't like different/newer things" but she said her yard has never looked better. So...they work great!
I bought my Craftsman tractor used, it's about 6 years old. I bought a bagger from Sears and hooked it up. I was initially dissapointed with the bagger, it got clogged easily and didn't seem to pick up too much of the grass. I figured the blades needed to be changed or sharpened, so I took the deck off (very easy by the way) and they seemed okay. I talked to a person in the lawn and garden department and he recommend these blades. He said that all the tractors there don't come the special blades you really need to bag the grass. I took his advice, changed the blades, and I can saw is "wow". Sucks up all the grass, not a shred left on the lawn. Awesome, tractor changing purchase for $40.
Bought these blades based on the description which stated that these blades would reduce the size of clippings and allow you to get 50% more in each load of clippings. I should have known better. I can't tell the difference in the size of the clippings but what really bothers me is that these blades don't bag well at all. Did I have reduced stops to empty the bags? Yes. The problem is that this is because you are picking up approximately 25% of the total clippings. In addition, to keep from clogging the chute with these blades, you have to go extra slow. If you are buying these for mulching, you may be okay, but if you intend to use the bagger, stay away from these and get the high lift blades instead.
