Some technical information regarding this mower ...
This unit is built by Husqvarna, and is similar to Husqvarna RZ5424. The Sears model has a V-Twin, 4-stroke, 724 cc, 24 hp Briggs & Stratton Platinum engine. Model 44S877-0024G1. It says "Qualified to 25% longer life." It comes with hour meter and headlights. Instead of a key, it has a push-button panel Sears calls "Complete Start". It allows you to set a 1 to 5 digit code (based on the buttons labeled 1, 2, 3). Once you enter the correct code, it enables the push button start. The transmission model is (EZT) Hydro-Gear ZC-AUBB-3D8B-2WPX. The mower model number is 917.204140. The information online by Sears is pretty sparse. I have zero time in the seat. I wanted to share technical information on this mower so others can make an informed decision.

cracked engine block
got this unit today and I have to tell you everything went well as far as delivery date and time. after the delivery started really inspecting the unit . the unit seems to have plenty of power and handles very well .checked around the engine found oil dripping. further inspection reveled a crack alongside the bottom of the engine beside the oil dipstick . fell in love with it . will send it back for a replacement . I will keep you posted on the next one.

Great 36" mower

Got it home and noticed it wasn't cutting correctly. Mower only had 2 blades. I have to wonder what else isn't right. I guess I will get to see how Sears handles problems.

First season using this mower, so take comments in that light. Fast and easy starting, Put a mulch kit on it, not easy, but not too hard. Clean it after every mow, but cuttings still gather under deck. Not cutting evenly, have to go over some spots. Price was good.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Strong engine

I mow 1-1/2 acres; my wife has planted a hundred plants and trees! No kidding. Compared to a garden tractor / riding mower, the zero machines are fantastic; mowing time are 1/3 less. When going to a zero, what sold me on this particular unit was the cutting width, the engine, the price, and confidence in Sears. Ground speed is very good; the controls are very precise and positive. You can control it in a manner that lets you put the deck exactly where you want it to be. A few things that are not so great about the unit: the rough ride, which can be softened by lowering air pressure (a little); that it spins a tire easily when trying to back up while turning (you have to bump the other control FWD to get it to back up) - this you will get used to; that the blade control shuts off while backing - using both controls is a awkward; the big negative that I had was the lack of good clipping discharge and that the deck gets really plugged up on certain weedy portions of the property, which is nasty to clean out and takes time. The water clean out, for one, isn't a good idea and two, doesn't work all that well. It would plug up so badly that I had to stop mowing and have to clean it out. This was so frustrating at times, I would hop on the old mower, which does not plug up. (its a 2 blade sears 38"). If you have nice grass you probably won't have such an issue with this that I had. I re-engineered inside the deck and have made it 50% better. 1. removed all the screws that stick down too far into the deck (if it took 1" screws they installed 2") and replaced them with bolts, nuts and washers with the bolt heads, down. 2. lift the discharge chute all the way up when in the 'bad' stuff. 3. remove the black curved part inside the deck that was poorly designed. My next step was going to be open up the front of the deck, but I didn't have to. It works well enough now. My blades are kept sharp and replaced when 'lift' side shows wear. I feel that I shouldn't have had to re-engineer the product, but it was either send it back or make it work. I elected to make it work. Most people wouldn't go through this. The only thing wrong with the unit is the Hour Meter. It has never worked. I finally decided to call Sears and arrange to have it repaired. Another point I would like to make about a zero mower in general; there is a small learning curve and they cut close to what you want to cut close to. When making one pass the deck doesn't literally cut close around things; the tires have to clear the 'thing'. It requires pulling up, then swinging left; and this repeated to get the results you want. This greatly reduces your weed eater work. I say I won't recommend this product, but with the stipulation that if the yard is nice grass, it will work OK. For the money this is a good mower... after a little tweaking.

This mower is fun to use and does a great job. It takes a lot less time to do a better job than my old mower.

Great mower, no... Unfortunately...

Turf tires are very easy on the lawn but very slippery. I was on a mild slope and had to use my truck to pull the mower out of the ditch. I was not mowing anything new, this was an established yard that had been mowed several years. Blades... Yeah it has a good cut and the yard looks nice. But I bent one and can not find a replacement. It appears that sears changed the center design and now my only recourse is to order a blade on line. Yes I was mowing when I bent the blade and I don't have seven days to wait for a blade. I understand that things change but why does no one stock a blade for a 2013 mower? I am online right now with customer service and even with expedited shipping at $18 the soonest a blade can be here is 4 days... Yeah, you might like this mower when you get it home. But this is where I am six months later... Good luck if you purchase this mower!!! Sears really left me hanging...

Belt Issues

Had the mower and used it one time before it started throwing the belt. Reset the belt and checked the tension but it still throws the belt. First available service appt. in two weeks. Pretty sad considering I spent $3K on this donkey. Might be better off looking at Troy Bilt. I wouldn't recommend this mower.

Way to go!

If you are looking for something for home use your search is over. I have looked at all the residential mowers on the market and found this one to be the best value! I received it today from the home delivery truck and started cutting. From the store to the curb i have had great service! The mower comes ready to go but i suggest that you put a few pumps of grease in each fitting as well as change the air pressure to 10 psi in each tire. You will get a much better ride. My yard looks like a golf coarse! The smart start works as it should and is very easy to use.Do yourself a favor and pick one up!

Awesome machine!

I have a very uneven yard, and a big yard. This mower so far has exceeded my expectations. It's cut my mowing time in half. When I hit a high patch of grass it doesn't even hesitate. I love the electric start, just hit a button and it fires right up with no hesitation. Overall a great tractor.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
