I purchased this tractor in May 2012 and I now have over 20 hours usage on this tractor. This tractor replaced a 2001 42" Craftsman. First read the instructions and follow the set up procedures to the letter. Do this and you will have an excellent cutting platform. There are some cons to this tractor but they weren't deal breakers for me, IE: 1. Height adjustment is on the left hand side and gets hung up on clothing when exiting the tractor. 2. Reverse pedal should have been larger thus easier to use. 3. Gas gauge window almost impossible to read.
Pro's 24HP engine extremely smooth and powerful, will cut the steepest yards such as mine. 2. Deck is vibration free and excellent cutting ability, hose connecter for cleaning is an added bonus. 3. Turning radius is the tightest in the industry. 4. Transmission is smooth and also vibration free.
Prior to purchasing I read the reviews and almost decided against this tractor but because of my history with Craftsman products I decided to buy and can honestly say I have not regretted it. A lot of the bad reviews could be attributed to the buyer trying to use the product without going through the set up procedure. It's a great tractor for the money.
I purchased the equivalent model several years ago. I know that manufacturers change the mechanics from year to year, but this might be worth thinking about. The machine has been great on our almost 2 acre lot and we have been very happy with it. Last week the drive peddles stopped working properly. Upon inspection I found that there is supposed to be a small spring that sits next to the transaxle, and it was missing. I assumed it would be a simple and inexpensive fix. When I called the parts department they informed me that that part is not available for sale on its own. It comes as part of the transaxle assembly (the entire rear drive system). The cost of the parts alone is $775.... it seems to be a very expensive spring...

I have not even used the cutting deck, so I can't comment on that. My workhorse 10+ yr old Craftsman LT1000 was destroyed during Sandy so we replaced with this, and i love it. So far it's been plowing snow, pushing sandy debris and hauling dirt, mulch, and anything else I need done. I would love one with "posi" rear, but they are expensive and usually only come with 54in decks. Pros: Very strong, a lot more powerful than my last one Starts easy Holds lots of gas, easy to refill Tight turning Cupholder (yes my old one didn't have it) and did i say powerfull Cons: cheaply made My alignment is off Gas gauge USELESS Rear tires too thin (less traction than my old one) Even with the cons, this maching is excellent

I am sorry i bought this tractor. I had to have service rep. work on it before I could use it. It has 6 mowing heights but only 2 can be used without scalping yard and then with a mulching kit it just clumps the grass up. I have to go over the whole yard with grass sweaper. A job that took me 45 min. with a smaller MTD mower now takes me twice as long.

Had one issue when nearly new...safety switch on seat malfunction but Sears came right out and fixed it. I do heavy hauling on a small pecan farm of about 10 acres...I mow..spray..push (push bar attachment) and pull with this monster. Powerful smooth operation! After 2 years and almost 250 hours of operation and not 1 serious issue...I Love this piece of powerful precision machinery!

YT4000 model 917-289283 has 60 hours of use. The trans-axil hangers broke, because the bolts where gone from the front hangers. Not sure if they where ever there! Some wear on the hanger where the bolts where suppose to be. But bolts where gone! Anyway that let the whole transmission to move, in turn torque the hangers on side where the axil attach to break. When the transmission started to move, of course the belt got thrown and that in turn broke the gear disengager lever...which now is leaking oil! SEARS CRAFTMAN DOES NOT WARRANTY ANYTHING AFTER 2 YEARS....EVEN THOUGH THIS MACHINE HAS ONLY 60 HOURS OF USE! They would replace frame, but at our cost of labor! But the trasmission is all up to us! We feel that this product totally failed under low usage! NOT BUYING ANOTHER CRAFTMAN PRODUCT!

I finally gave up my 13-year old Craftsman last year and bought the YT 4000. I liked the old one better. I've been mowing the same 3 acres since 1999 and this new mower doesn't stack up. Strengths - Good power: Mows up a steep embankment without complaint - Turns sharp: This works well and is very useful - Sturdy frame: This one seems stiffer than the old one. Then again, the old one had been around the block a few times. Weaknesses: - Poor mowing: Leaves uncut grass behind. I find myself mowing the same grass over and over and over. - Deck too low: Won't adjust high enough. If you have rough ground or tree roots or just want to leave the grass a bit long, you're out of luck. - Unreliable: The starter just went out after just one year. The starter on my old Craftsman was still going after 13 seasons. $142 to replace. - I don't care for having to push the pedal to go. After a while my foot gets tired. Cruise control sucks compared to the old variable speed lever.

I bought mine in Sept 2012 as we purchased a home with 3+ acres, mostly lawn and all on hilly terrain, with what I read this would do the job. I purchased the snow blade at the same time, as winter is said to have a lot of snow in our new area and we have a long driveway, no shovel for me and did not want to walk uphil with a snow blower. Winter only gave us one heavy snow (this year) but the machine and snowblade worked flawlessly. With spring now here, I used it for thick grass for the first time and it tackled the wet stuff without a problem. the only drawback i found is slipping of the wheels if I turned to rapid uphill, I just backed up, shortened my and travelled up without a hitch. Great machine for me, worth every penny.

Bought this new in fall with snowblower 2 stage. Came all set up for winter blower on weights and chains. Used all winter what a machine! People complained about belt slip never happened. They must drive it like a bulldozer. Wheels where toed in a lot. Removed steering arms and straightened to make longer front wheels are now straight. Have not used the mower deck yet. Removed spindles on deck and installed grease fittings. Tractor was also hard starting. Throttle pull was set wrong choke was not coming on adjusted cable @ carburetor. Starts great now. Overall very happy. Lots of power. Throws snow across a double driveway with ease. Most types of snow can be blown 35 feet at least. Only gave it four stars for steering alignment and choke not set correctly. Nothing is perfect.

Had mine for a year now. It was perfect from the first day. I got the parasol which is awesome on a hot, bright day. I like this mower for the same reasons everyone here did, but let me add one more thing. The 24 hp engine and 46 inch cut allows me to run it wide open when I cut, and I can cut my acre lot in about an hour. The schleps next door have a 13 hp 36 inch no name tractor and it takes them all day at half snail speed. Very happy.

Returned mower after 2 weeks. Great tractor with lots of power, but mower deck really sucks. Adjustments to level deck were inadequate, even looked at the video that Husqvarna has on line. Had adjustments all the way to the top (6) but deck was still too low. Very disappointed!

I just got this today so it is not a long term rating. I did mow my back yard in 8 minutes with this mower when it usually takes me a half hour. Being made by Husqvarna is the main reason I bought this unit. I feels solid and is better than a Cub Cadet any time. I feel the mower and I will be working together for a long time.
