Great Tractor
Starts right up out of the packing crate. Runs smooth and lots of power The height adjustments are a lot easier to use and there are more to choose from. They have separated the forward and reverse. direction pedals. The only draw back I have found is the height adjustment lever is a little to long and catches your pants or leg when you get off that side of the tractor.

Transmission GRINDING in Reverse
One week old with less than 8 hours and transmission makes bad grinding noise in reverse. Also, it is SO difficult to make it goes into reverse. I must use my hand to "grab the forward pedal and pull it backward while the foot is pressing on the reverse pedal"

So far, so good-only minor complaints.

After 16 yrs., my old Craftsman finally broke to the point of not worth fixing. I had my issues with it over time, but I still got the 16 years out of it. I wanted to get a tractor that would be an upgrade in both deck size and power, since I push snow with it in the winter. This seemed to fit the bill. I have only mowed once with it but am relatively pleased with it so far. It's definitely more powerful at 22HP compared to 16.5HP of the old one, and I went from a 42" to a 48" deck, so I was done quicker. The additional ground speed and the tight turn radius helps to reduce the time as well. I have a rather bumpy yard, as most is old field that was never properly landscaped, so I will never mow at the top speed of this tractor, but it will definitely go. Going in reverse is not a fast maneuver, but I haven't as yet heard any grinding noise as a few have described, and hopefully won't. The deck does a nice job of cutting and dispersal out the chute, very little to no clumping. This is new for me, as both my previous tractors did that. A couple have mentioned excessive vibration when the deck is engaged, but having used my neighbor's Cub Cadet 50" with similar features, I can say mine has the normal amount of vibration one would expect. And the deck itself is rock steady-no shaking. Now, about my minor quibbles. As one reviewer mentioned, the accelerator pedal is designed for people with large or even clown feet. I struggled to maintain a constant placement of my foot on the pedal. I did move the seat forward, but it's just the fact that with my heel on the running board, I can only get the front of my toe on the pedal. I wear a size 10.5 shoe. It would be a simple design fix to extend the foot pad down a couple of inches so people of smaller foot size could control the speed comfortably. Another had mentioned that the accelerator is rather jerky, and this is true from a standing stop. I wonder if my foot could comfortably reach the pedal if that would change, since I can't ease my foot forward the way I want to. The cruise control can help with pedal control some, but sometimes it not practical to use. And this cruise control is not like a cars. It basically holds the pedal in position, but when you go up or down a slope, it doesn't alter your ground speed accordingly. You go faster down the slope and slower up the slope. But a cruise control on a tractor?? That's still pretty neat anyway. I don't know if I'll get 16 yrs. out of this one or not. Odds say no; they just aren't made to last like they used to be. But overall I like it. The pedal will take getting used to, since I'm used to the fender lever. And the deck wash feature is not a cure all; I sat on the tractor for 5 minutes+ and it didn't clean all the caked on grass from the roof of the deck. But it will help. There is a warped ventilation grate on the left side that kind of pops out when the hood bounces if you hit a rut as your turning, but it's not going to fall off or anything.

Used 3 times, replacement coming tomorrow

Love this mower. Have 2 acres, not all flat and this does the trick. Mows well, and I use with a cart for a lot of other maintenance. Also fun to just drive around property. Cons, reverse doesn't engage. I have to pull pedal back with my hand for mower to reverse. Sears wanted to send repairman out to home, I asked for a new mower. They instantly agreed. Hopefully new one doesn't have this issue.

Overall, really nice mower

Replaced my cub cadet with this one, it is fast, powerful, looks nice, love the tight turn radius, and cuts very well. I don't have the grinding in the transmission like some of the other reviews and I have several hours on it now, some of that in 90+ degrees. I don't like the hood not latching mentioned in a prior comment, if you hit a hole or something the hood will pop up and usually pushes out the right side panel because it rests on them. Overall, I really like the mower though and would recommend it.

Overall
Good product and value.

this riding lawnmower is just what I WAS LOOKING for to cut the grass at my cottage up north. we have property at a lake that has a small inclines and trees to cut around in the summer. In the fall we have a lot of leaves to pick up and it was getting to be a bigger job than I wanted to do all the time. Too much time spent working and not enough time enjoying our place. with the bagger and the cart my time was cut down working and the job was more enjoyable to do. I look forward to cutting the yard now. aLSO NO MORE TIME spent fixing the mower before I COULD EVEN START mowing. The ability to get close to trees when cutting was the grass was a big bonus. I love my new riding lawnmower.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Would not purchase another one!

There are several issues with this unit that makes it a non-desirable mower. First, I am always running out of gas because with the design of the fuel window, it is so small, dark and hidden under the seat you cannot see the fuel level. Therefore almost without fail, every couple of mows I end up running out of fuel far away from my house and having to go walk back to get the gas can to add fuel so I can finish. Secondly, the reverse pedal is so small and very hard to depress that it kind of wipes out the tight turn feature of going around obstacles because you almost have to use your foot and smash the pedal down to get it to go in reverse. I wish I had not waited past the 30 days to mow more than once and realize the poor design quality of this mower or I certainly would have returned it!

What a Beast!

This mower is awesome. Opting for the three smaller blades as opposed to the two bigger ones generates a lot of torque, and I'm powering through some tall grass. The motor just purrs too. Compared to my old 11hp Craftsman, this 22hp VTwin is actually quieter! The only reason she didn't get 5*s is because when I got it home it wouldn't start. There was a fault in a safety circuit under the seat, and she wouldn't turn over. Once I swapped it out for a new one, I cut my mowing time down by almost half over my old JD112. The 6" Turn Radius is awesome. Before this mower, I was convinced I was going the buy a zero turn. The other nice thing is the size. I'm 6'2" 230lbs, and I am comfortable on this beast. Recommended!

*** DO NOT BUY***

I bought this mower new in April 2014. I have had it replaced 3 times and am on my 4th mower. The rear-end and transmission are bad. It grinds when going into reverse. SEARS refuses to address the real problem that the mower Model is defective. *** DO NOT BUY****

Only Used Once but Wow!

I've only used it once so I cannot say how it will hold up but Wow, it's a blast. Contrary to what others have said it seems quite easy to control at slow speeds but when you want to go fast, it flies. I see no down side yet. Blows away my old Husky in every respect. The turning is awesome. My teenage daughter loves it too; like driving a go cart.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
