first time I used them I broke one because I didn't use the proper size and it wasn't in far enough I think. Or I used too big of a wrench to turn it? No better than the ones I would get from discount stores. Ended up almost drilling old bolt out and putting in smaller bolt with nut.
I needed to purchase this product to remove a screw my son had stripped in his vehicle. It did the job quickly and easily. We are loyal to craftsman tools because of the consistent quality.
I have a machinist background and 30+years experience and have extracted broken studs, bolts, screws, drills, and taps. The fist broken exhaust stud I removed from an aluminum head came out as advertised however the second stud removal was a nightmare. The extractor twisted off in the stud and being rockwell hardened steel it was a long time extraction process. Not only did it happen once the next larger extractor did the same so I got to repeat the process. Should have drilled the stud out and re-tapped it for a larger size would have save time and money.
My motorcycle rotor bolt was stripped so I went to the local hardware store to get some extractors. I had used this type of extractor before (of way better quality) and have had great success. As soon as I drilled a hole deep enough I hammered bit No. 3 snug in the hole. As I started to twist counter clockwise I could feel success as the bit tightened. Not a second later the bit snapped off in the hole. Needless to say I'm really pissed because I now have a much more complex project than I wanted.

I have a very small but annoying bolt stuck. I successfully drilled a 5/64 inch hole in the bolt (not easy!). Inserted the #1 screw extractor and applied slow constant force. The extractor reached the end of the hole and stopped. I applied the same amount of force again and the extractor snapped like a toothpick, leaving me stranded. Now I need to drill out the entire thing and hope I can re-thread. If you look closely at the product you can see that it is not made of the same high-strength metal as drill bits are. I can see this product working on a low-torque job, but most of the time if a bolt has snapped that means it is seized and needs lots of torque. I am eyeing the Schroeder HI-TRAC 5-pc. Fine Thread Screw Extractor Set, but it is too large for my needs.
I had a torx bolt stripped and stuck in my jeep. Drilled the pilot hole and used the largest bit in this set and it got it out with no problem. Very strong and sturdy bits, surprised at how easy and well these worked.
