I bought this for my boyfriend and he loves it. Only problem is the chain dulled pretty quickly and was tricky for him to replace. He just sharpens it now and it works great.
My husbands old (little) chain saw was having some issues. I talked him into going to Sears with me and took him to look at what they had to offer. He picked this one out, took it home and enjoyed it to clear some tress that had been dropping dead limbs all over are property. He is a happy camper.

Good, hard working chainsaw. Maintenance is relatively easy and it is tough! It is the first gas powered chainsaw I have purchased and it is a great value. It can be a bit heavy and got some jobs a shorter blade would be easier, but for all around use it is great!
I am replacing my older model of this saw (55cc) only because I did not think to check the mixture of gas I got back after loaning my saw to a friend. There was no mix. It was just gas and it welded the engine. I had my old saw for about 5 years. I heat with wood and I burn about 2-3 cords yearly. The saw always started within 3 pulls. It never conked out. The clutch never had a problem. The brake always worked. I sharpened it myself and used up 4 chains. I even once left gas in it from April till October and it cranked with 2 pulls on full choke. The only issues I had were: 1. The spring loaded vibration abatement was hard for me to get used to. 2. It's about 3 lbs heavier than most comparable saws.
Looks the part with design features and comes backed by craftsman reputation. saw is a little heavier than my other saws I've owned but not an issue for me - bigger engine and built sturdy. value priced when on sale makes it a smart buy if you're in need of a reliable, workhorse saw.
I shopped around at Sears, *****, ********** and ************** and this saw was the best value for the money. I have only used it a few times but it starts well and handles most normal jobs around the yard. The free case was also a nice bonus. I bought the service contract just in case I have starting issues down the road.
I remember the few occasions when this saw performed well, ripping thru oak rounds w/ tremendous power, making me happy w/ my buy. Yes sir, it's a real beast when it's running, slicin' thru hardwood like the proverb says. The big problem with this saw, however is that it is almost never running, or running well. After the second use, the chain break band seized and would not release, forcing me to send it to Sears. Repaired and returned, the saw ran well briefly, then developed some carb adjustment prob s., dying in the cut, stalling out and then racing at full power when restarted. After I bought a tool to recalibrate, the next thing was a slit purge bulb. That replaced, the saw started and ran well in my driveway, so I decided to take it into the woods to finish off a white oak I'd been cutting on. Big mistake! No start! It's impossible to overstate my frustration with the saw. Bought to upgrade an earlier Sears. 42cc, for which I got my money's worth, this bigger saw is a total bust, croaking in cuts in that white oak which a Solo 40cc (purchased subsequently so I could keep on sawing) tore thru. Does anyone smell sour citrus here?
