Purchased the 55lb wheel weights for the 12" tire- ensure you buy 2 as they only come 1 apiece. Great purchase- I use my garden tractor for plowing and harrowing in sandy soil- this item allowed my tractor to get the needed traction in order to use my ground engaging implements. Great purchase, and I plan on leaving them on. The difference is phenomenal. I am still considering purchasing Ag tires, but honestly I may not need to now.
These weights are for the 12 inch wheels . They are easy to install and they are plastic covered . They do what they are suppose to do . Not any problems at all . I leave mine on year round . Works great with chains in the winter for snow removal .
I used these with chains for several years while plowing and they do the trick and are a must have if you're going to plow snow. I'm going to try these next with a front scoop and I'm sure they will work fine and I'm hoping it's enough weight to counter balance a fully loaded scoop. A slight issue I have is that they're somewhat of a hassle to get on and off. They're heavy so you have to hold them in place with one hand while reaching under the tractor with the other hand to get the bolts on. Your other option is to get some help. The other slight issue I have is that you can't add air to the tire while these are on. So if your tire is low on air in the winter you need to take these on and off in the cold.
I would gladly trade ease of installation for performance. There is a lighter-weight version of this tractor wheel weight with easy-install bolts, but they cover the valve stem and come loose over time. Their job is to be heavy! These weights are quite easy to install, if awkward to position due to their weight. I can't imagine someone who relies on their tractor to keep their driveway clear all winter, and doesn't mind blocking the valve stem. I've had tires start leaking during the season, and I didn't want to pull the wheel to have the tire repaired. As long as I inflated the tire before each use, it was fine. Removing and re-installing invites more opportunity for the part to fail somewhere. I would much rather have the weight on the wheel - that's where the traction comes from, so why attach the weight to the body, where the frame and transmission must handle the extra load? Mounting behind the tractor actualy takes load OFF the front tires, which can make it more difficult to steer (without traction, front tires can tend to slide instead of lead). These units come with only qty(2) bolts for installation. For piece of mind, I will probably buy a second set, so each weight is held to the wheel with qty(4) bolts (there are four holes on the weights, and four mating holes on each rim).
I bought these weights because they were cheaper and heavier than the other brand Sears carries. Picked them up and tried to install them. No go on my JD with 24x12x12 tires. They have a lip on them that is larger in diameter than the rim without any clearance for the tire. Probably works fine on skinny 12" tires, but not mine. Had to exchange them for the other ones. They are designed so you can stack them, and even come with the hardware for it. Nice feature!
theese wheel weigths fit the 12 inch wheel nicely , thought it was going to be hard to install but wasn't , I took the tire assembly offf drilled necessary holes then put them on and installed the wheel weights , very satisfied with them !
