This set of tools may not be a nessicary part of every tool box but it is reall handy to have around it you have to drift out a roll pinfrom its installation. The punches are desined with a special tip that will keep the end of the roll pin from mushrooming as it is being driven. Inadvertently expanding the pin could cause damage to the parts you are extracting the pin from. These punches are made in the U.S.A. and have the full Craftsman Hand Tool Warrantee. ***Like any other too you use by hitting it with a hammer, ALWAYS wear safetyglasses when using these tools. ***

This is a decent roll pin punch set. I ordered it to install a roll pin into the tilt mechanism in my boat outdrive and it worked perfectly - the smallest driver fit and I had the pin installed in under a minute with just a few hammer taps. The time I installed this same pin I'd used a standard punch and it'd damaged the pin, causing failure in less than a year, so I'm a firm believer in roll pin punches now.

The biggest downside is that this set was advertised as coming with a case. I expected a vinyl "roll-up" pouch with sleeve for the individual tools, but I guess they consider the plastic store packaging they sell it in to be a case. I'm rather disappointed about that, but I guess I'll just throw them in with my other punches and be careful about only using them on roll pins.

This is one of those tools that is very simple in design and you will be surprised how often you find yourself using.

Rollpins are the curled sheetmetal pins inserted to keep parts together in many, many industrial and consumer products.  If you try to drift one out of a hole you will find that the pin becomes permanentally buggered-up with a crushed end.  Then you have the challenge of finding a replacement rollpin that is the right size.(The rolled construction provides a small amount of spring action to keep the pin in place once seated, the diameter and thickness are critical).  Just use the proper rollpin punch and the pin will pop out of the hole with nary a scratch on it and will be reusable.  Repair effected quickly, no hunting for a replacement pin.  I find these punches useful in working on my guns as well as aviation parts.

I use these primarily to work on my motorcycle wheel bearings.  They are tough and exactly the right shape and size for driving out bearings.  I have found that I use them elsewhere on my bike, and the quality seems to be excellent.  I received these as a gift, and I have been pleased with them thus far.

I added these to my Craftsman roll-away tool set in my workshop.  So far, they have worked okay.  I use them to pound on roll pins and the end of each punch has a special tip that fits inside the matching roll pin.  There is nothing like being prepared for a roll pin.  They need to correct the specifications where it says a case is included.  They only come with a package like a blister pack. 

The product description on 43167 punch set says "Vinyl pouch for protection and storage." Wrong. There is no pouch. It comes in a plastic package and you're left with 6 loose punches. Buyer beware.
