This is a fair set not unlike so many other HSS lathe tools sold in a myriad of different stores around the nation for less money (typically half) but I believe they do carry the same hand tool warranty as the rest of the Craftsman tool lineup.
With that said, I still like the balance of this set over the cheaper set as the wood used in the handles seems better (heavier) balancing the tools better than their counterparts. The HSS still needs some attention as there are better tools of better steel that need less attention that only cost a few dollars more.
For the budget minded that wants a fair tool to learn with then these are a good deal. For the seasoned woodworker then spend some more and buy a carbide set.

The handles are the best part about the whole set, they are comfortable. The quality is is very poor quality. The skew chisel rounded off within 30 seconds of use, the tip looked looked like a butter knife. The roughing gouge snapped about 2 inches from the handle into after about 15 minutes of use. This was with light use (taking off small amount of material and no forcing). I bought the set thinking off Craftsman quality, but I was leary of the quality when I opened up the box and it had made in China stamped on them.I paid $90 plus freight for the set when it probably should have been $9. I've seen similiar sets in discount tool stores for less than $20. This set was probably made in the same factory as the cheap set.

I purchased this tool set a couple months ago and have put them to quite a bit of use. They are made with high quality materials and I am very satisfied. However, upon receiving the tools I found that a couple of them were very dull....especially the roughing gouge and round scraper. Once sharpened I have been extremely satisfied. The HSS keeps a sharp edge thru extended use. I feel they should receive a 4 star rating, but with the excellent price point they received 5 stars. Highly recommended for a beginner starter set.

I am pleased with the turning tools. The quality is as I expected. They were well packaged and sharp. I have used them quite a few times and they remain sharp. As always Sears tools are of best quality and great service. Thank you

I bought this tool set after I bought the lathe so I could get going on turning. The tools are indeed well balanced and the case they come in is nice. The wooden case is falling apart, but a little glue will fix that. One thing I noticed is the tools are not hardened enough. I turned two small projects and have had to sharpen the gouge and skew chisel twice in the short time I have used them. Great set for the price though. For the serious turner, spend the extra money and get a professional set like sorby. An additional larger gouge would be a nice feature of this set. They do an adequate job for the beginer.

These turning tools are well balanced and cut wood (even oak) like butter. The handles are comfortable and well put together. The wood box they come with is handy for storage. Great high speed speed tools for the price. I got these for $80 as a craftsman club member which was even better. A++
