For the money you can spend on tools that most people rarely use, it's hard to beat this set. That said, I am a woodworker and I use these quite often and they are always sharp enough to do a great job for me! I have had to sharpen a couple of them but once done they did hold their edge (better than the factory edge I might add) better than a Stanley set I bought a couple years back.
As anyone that knows me or reads my posts knows, I am an avid Craftsman fan. I actually purchased the 5 piece in Sears as they did not have the 6 piece available. Even though I am missing the 1 1/2 " chisel (I will be purchasing it soon), this review is very applicable in talking about the set; especially considering I use all 5 chisels in my woodworking shop. With that said, as awesome as the 5 piece Craftsman Chisel set is, for the price I actually like the Stanley chisels better. First let me talk about the steel in the chisel. The steel is hardened steel and holds an edge extremely well. I was able to use three of five chisels straight out of the packaging with only running each across a leather strap and they were ready to go. The other two did require some sharpening on my diamond sharpeners but took an edge quickly. One of these two required a little more work as it had a small knick that would have shown up in any work I attempted to use it on. Overall on the task, a cart with tenons and mortises, each of these chisels did make quick work of the job and I have no complaints in this area. Now for the reason I prefer the Stanley chisel set better them my trusted Craftsman. I realize part of this is just being picky but it is the way I feel about the tool. The Craftsman handles are a molded black plastic. They made some effort at getting them molded to fit a person's hand while they worked but failed miserably. Additionally, the molded plastic has very little if any grip when your hands get sweaty or wet. The Stanley on the other hand also has molded handles but they are made using a hard clear yellow tinted plastic with a non-slip black rubber molded into the design for better performance. This two piece construction feels better in the hand but also is more secure when your hands become wet and slippery. While the design of the grip is similar to that of Craftsman, the Stanley grip just feels much more comfortable and safe. Lastly, the color combination actually makes it more pleasing to the eye as well but that is taking my pickiness to the extreme. :-(

6 pc is great, the 1.5" is a $11.69 alone item, the case makes it convience to store and keep them organized and protected in case. There are a lot of 5 or 4 piece sets availble but this one gives you a great range of sizes for a good price.

This set is pretty sharp right out of the box. Some chisels seemed to be a little sharper than others. The case keeps the blades pretty well protected.

Chisels feel good and were sharp. The case makes them take up a lot of space in my tool box. The pockets that hold the chisels make it difficult to take them out and even more difficult to put them back in. I wish the kit came with the little rubber caps that the other sets come with. I would just ditch the case if that were the situation. I ordered this set because it had the largest selection for a minimal price increase over the 5 piece set.

The Craftsman 6 pc. Wood Chisel Set with Case is a great set of wood chisels for the newbie or the seasoned woodworker. I purchased this set after reading several reviews and doing a little research and so far, they have performed better than I was expecting. The set comes with: 1/4" 1/2" 3/4" 1" 1 1/4" cutting widths. this set has nice and comfortable black handles and are easy to hold while you are working. They seem to hold their edge pretty good. This set makes some nice and clean cuts and are great to use while working on your projects. I am fairly new in the wood working scene and am learning as I go, but form what I have learned so far, I really like this set of wood chisels. I will add more to my review as I get more oportunities to sue them on other projects, but so far they seem to be the wood chisels of choice while working on my projects out in the shop.

I picked up these wood chisels about three months ago. I had never owned a matching set of chisels, just hand-me-downs from my father. This whole set was a lttle out of my price range so I purchased the 3-piece set instead. Big mistake! I loved these chisels so much I wanted them all. The problem is that by purchasing the remaining three I spent a whole lot more money. Live and learn. I would like to help keep you from making the same mistake. These chisels are great! They are balanced very nicely and the contoured makes them very confortable to hold. I really like the way the sizes are etched deeply into the blade. (My eyes aren't as good as they once were.) Another reason for buying them as a set is that if you purchase seperately you don't get the little plastic blade protectors. As sharp of an edge as these tools hold that is important. Whether you use them to scrap out the bottom of a dado cut or use a mallet to relieve cut a hinge mortise, them chisels will live up to your expectations. They have mine!

I bought my Craftsman Wood Chisel set a few years ago and they are still as sharp as the day I got them. I got my set on sale for 25.00 and even at the regular price they are a great deal. Includes six chisels and a convenient storage case with handle. I use them at least once a week to chisel doors to receive a backset handle plunger. They always give me a nice clean edge on the wood that allows the plunger to set snug and even in the notch. With the storage case, I always know where they are and the tips are always protected. I also enjoy the laser etched chisel size on the tool. It make them very easy to identify at a glance. Great set of wood chisels at a great price. I'm very happy with them.

I have had mine for over 2 years now. I actually bought another set for my "truck tools" to carry to job sites. These chisels are very well made, comfortable and well balanced. The handles will take a beating without wear. Holds an edge very well and edges cleanup nicely with little fuss. They have been well rated by some woodworking mag for what that's worth. They can't be beat for durability and value. Only gripe is cosmetic-the shafts/tangs could have been cleaned up a bit to remove the forging edges and then polished.
