I bought this small miter saw because I already own it and use it all the time for home repairs. I wanted another one to use at my summer cabin for all the projects and improvements I make there. Very handy saw!

Was looking for a smaller quality sliding miter saw since giving up my USA made Dewalt miter saw that was overkill for just trim work. Seemed like a good idea since I could use the same size blades as my circular saw for finer cutting. However, this Crafsman is of the poorest quality power tool I have ever seen. Took out of the box and noticed one of the sliding rods was rusted but was superficial and didn't affect the sliding of the saw, should have stopped and returned it then. But continued and checked everything else, laser was accurate as were the few angle and bevel cuts I made for the blade that came with it. Then went to swivel the table and it seized sounding like (cheap) cast metal binding and contunually got worse everytime I moved the table until finally couldn't swivel the table side to side. This is the same problem one other reviewer had. Seems the quality on the metal base is really bad and will eventually affect all the cuts and no amount of adjusting will fix it. In addition, looked like it was used when I unpacked it had sawdust all over it but thought good at least they try them before packing them up. There is a good reason why you pay 3-4 times more for a quality saw like DeWalt, Hitachi, Makita etc.even though they are probably now Made in China, they have better quality control. Would never buy a Craftsman even for occasional use as long as they keep making them like this one. Could do better cuts with a circular saw and a good saw guide and save shop space. It's a common complaint, getting more difficult to find quality power tools (or anything) since all the factories are in China. Packed it up and now have to figure out how to return it.
just bought this tonite and am thrilled with it. i literally read every review and watched all the youtube videos on this one AND the 10 inch in both craftsman brand and the ever so popular blue and silver brand for probably 2 full months. ultimately decided on this one mostly because of the centered grip which is super handy when im forced to hold a piece off to the right side, and the fact that this one had the extensions which the other brand didnt. i would have loved to get the 10 inch version but these sliding ones take up enough room front to back as it is AND i dont cut 1x10's but maybe once a yr or so..its not that difficult to flip that dude and finish a cut but NOT having to up to that size is gonna be awesome. excited to try some dadoes with this too. oh and everybody seems to complain about the lasers on pretty much all miter saw reviews but mine was dead on right out of the box. for that matter so was the miter and bevel of it. guess i lucked out on this one. and yes im an avid woodworker so the accuracy of this is extremely important to me. im also as ocd as it gets so keep that in mind. and its physics people, of course the dustbag isnt going to collect your mess. get some real problems ha. awesome saw awesome price too. now quit reading and go get it!
Borrowed this from a friend to use for installing trim and baseboard. The small size is deceptively useful because of the slide feature which allows it to make outsize cuts. Found switching from 90 to 45 degree cuts quick and accurate. Does almost as much work as my 12" miter saw at our other home. Agree with the comment about the dust collection bag being useless. Only other negative is the all but hidden shaft lockout button. It should at least be painted red. But overall, a very nice, compact saw.

I bought the craftsman 7.25 inch sliding miter saw and it makes nice cuts but the design of the saw is poor. There is a place for a holddown clamp on the right side of the saw but it is not usable because the saw motor is located on that side, The manuel recommends bolting the saw down but the legs of the saw have to be removed to use the bolt holes, the laser guide line does not work. Technical support by telephone is very poor, the technician didn't have any good advise or understand the question.
Purchased just prior to the rehab of a resturant job. Broke within 3 weeks of an 8 week job, became unservicable after about 7. Took to repair center and they said we can't get parts for it??? WTF! It is a current model and a new saw. They offered me a replacement, "no thanks" took the money and bought a makita slider elsewhere. Since Sears does not carry any real "crafts-man" tools anymore. I'm a GC and I like to buy tools ONCE. Buying a new saw every job-to-six-months would kill my profit margin. Sorry sears, no more power tools from you with craftsman on it. Sidebar: a happy-homeowner who uses it 6 times a year may like it and it may last a few years. Pro's: don't waste your time/money.
As a pro contractor, I wanted an accurate small saw, but didn't want to spend $700 for the small amount of time I'd use it. This saw fits the bill. Its sturdy and accurate. BUT, don't use the blade that comes with it! Spend some $$ to buy a really nice blade as you would for any saw!
