Excellent Choice

I hesitated buying this sweeper because of the negative reviews I read.  It really did the job.  I'm 64 and my lawn is uneven.  Last weekend using a leaf blower and vacuum we spent about 4 hours clearing the lawn and I was exhausted..  This weekend with the sweeper we did it in half the time.  I was tired only because I'm out of shape for that much walking.  We don't cut our lawn - we have a service that does it but the service ends before the lawn is really loaded with leaves.  It was easy to pick up the areas where there were a lot of leaves but then I took my time and lowered the dial and cleaned up the yard better than the younger neighbors did on their lawn.  It was easy to empty.  I just grabbed the handle on the bottom and turned it upside down.  The capacity in the bag is sufficient to gather up a big enough area.  I'm really happy that I bought it.  It wasn't difficult to put together.  I've never written a review before but I felt I should so that someone reading this wouldn't be hesitant to purchase this sweeper like I was.

Does The Job, But...
Pros: It is faster than a manual rake. Decent price. Good for getting the loose stuff up quickly. Cons: Make sure you see this assembled before buying. Any shoddier of construction (materials) and it would have broke up taking out of the box. Brush housing is very thin plastic, leaf catcher bag is also ultra light / thin material. Hope you have a bagging mower - you'll still need to do another pass with it. Years ago Parker Company made a very high quality manual push sweeper but no more. Sears should really consider offering a higher quality model of better construction. I'd have been happy to pay more, but nothing any better available. Agri Fab offers one but appears identical to Sears. Both types probably the same but with different labels. In summary, yes, the thing works 'ok' but will it last you 3 years???? Sears needs to offer a higher quality model!!

Not like it used to be!

When I was a young child my Dad had one of these. I seem to remember that it was sturdy and easy to operate. I bought this thinking the same and I am extremely disappointed with it's performance. The frame is not sturdy, the red material is a heavy plastic instead of the old canvas that it used to be and the catcher itself seems to hold very little.

Terrific Product!

I really like this product a lot. Easy to put together, easy to adjust, not too hard to push. I have a pretty big yard and it only took about 15 minutes to clear the leaves! The hardest part of the whole process is getting the leaves from the catcher into a lawn and leaf bag. Saves time, my back, is safe and sturdy.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

A must have for yard work

I purchased this as I can not rake my leaves due to Arthritic problems, It works like a dream and not too heavy to empty. I would recommend to any elderly folks or people with health issues, and you still get exercise walking. It has been a life saver already

I would recommend this product to a friend.

amazing

we bought this a few years ago and it has worked very well. This year is also an acorn mast year so there are lots of acorns to be swept up as well. The brushes do tend to shoot some of the acorns out ahead of where you are pushing but many get lifted into the bin too. It does prefer flat ground because if a wheel goes into a hollow the brush height is reduced and struggles to turn.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

It works as long you get them up when they are dry.

For the price and saving me from raking, it works great.  We have a lot of leaves, we live in the middle of 5 acres of trees with our house and lawn carved out so remember this when I tell you we have a lot of leaves.   It takes us, a couple of sweeps across the lawn but it does pick them up.   It did not work in the spring when the leaves had been panked down with the winter snow.  I think it works best if the grass isn't long and the leaves are dry..   Our lawn looks great and all it takes is walking and dumping the leaves.  I recommend it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

DO NOT BUY DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!!!

My husband an I purchased this sweeper on Saturday (11/5/11), and we returned it the very same day! I hate to say it was all my idea, I was trying to make things easier for us but boy was I wrong!! The other reviews which complained on how difficult to put together it is were completely accurate. The screws and bolts fit together so tightly that they seem not to belong together. Also one of the wheels had fallen off in the box, and I know both wheels were supposed to be already attached. Okay we didn't let this keep us from proceeding, so once it was all done we took it outside only to find out the thing does not work well at all! It did pick up leaves but you must pass over an area several times and even doing that there were still leaves there! In addition the bag is so shallow that it filled up very quickly. Half of your time will be spent dumping the bag! We ended up putting the sweeper in the truck and getting out our rakes!! It was a complete waste of time!! I know most gadgets are not perfect but in my opinion this one was very poorly made and makes the job more difficult. The price is great, but if it doesn't work well I don't think its such a bargain anymore.

Overall
Poor quality

Was very difficult to assemble because the screws and the nuts were very tight.  I had to use WD40 to get them to work.  Then the handle that goes together was extremely tight and I needed a rubber mallet.  Craftsman should be ashamed of themselves.  You can tell the quality of the parts is garbage.

Then when I use the thing, the bag is so small that I constantly have to stop to empty it (my leaves have just started to fall, so I can't imagine once there is a lot of leaves).  The leaves also get jammed in the sweeping mechanism.

This product is a great idea, and I've seen other people use non Craftsman ones and they worked great.
