Unit isn't priced like or built like the $1,000 jointers. It's ideal if you have a small shop and occasionally joint boards. Unit was aligned properly right out of the box and has worked well.
Very good for unit for the price and size. I was skeptical with the granite surfaces, but it held up well and cuts very square. I see plenty of comments regarding the fence being set too far back; and I could see that happening. However, a couple of washers seems a small price to pay for this hardy little jointer. Mine was on clearance for $115 so I couldn't pass it up. I am glad I have it.
Just like other informative reviews I found the fence needed help, on mine it would not get to 90, was about 88 due to the adjustment hold down did not have enough travel, nothing to do with the end point adjustment, so I shimmed the top with 2 washers and bottom with 1, now it goes from 92 to 45. The tool itself worked great, a few passes at 1/32 and my acrylic was ready to be joined/glued. And it was much quieter than expected, more than my friends porter by alot. Love the granite table/fence. I picked mine up at Sears to make sure I got one that was not broken. If this lasts it will be a very good bargain .
I purchased this joiner about a year ago. It has preformed well. However, last week I broke the blade guard. I have tried to order a new one and found out the part I needed has been discontinued. A $11.06 part is preventing me from using a $250 machine. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid. I am finding out that the Craftsman name is not as honorable as it once was.

Good value, workmanship is good as is the finish, not a high production machine, but very appropriate for home workshop. Just what I was looking for. Would not hesitate to recommend.
A few people are seriously complaining in reviews that the fence was too far back from the blade, and I had the same problem. Here's the solution: a washer. I used a washer in between the upright mounting brackt and the fence itself and the problem was solved. I know you shouldn't have to do this on a brand new product, but this was such a simple fix I can't believe anyone who operates machinery wouldn't think of that, let alone return it to the store because of it. Aside from that, it was very smooth running; I didn't even have to clamp it to the table to use. For the $200 or so dollars, it is well worth it! I don't usually bother to review products but since I spent a lot of time searching for a good one, I thought I'd share and maybe take some guesswork out of it for others.
I bought this hoping for the best, but no matter what I tried I could not get a straight edge. The wood kept getting caught between the blade the the metal plate it attaches to. At one point I set the infeed to the highest level which should have resulted in minimal contact with the blade but what happened was frightening. I suddenly saw a spark and the machine started to vibrate rigorously. What happened was that the blade actually flew off and the screws holding it in place were stripped away. As you might expect, I returned it. At one point Sears told me I hade to contact Craftsman for a refund. When I contacted Craftsman they told me i had to work through Sears. Luckily one of the Store managers agreed to refund my purchase.
I bought the planer/jointer for small objects with boards not longer than 3 feet that need joining. It serves the purpose. It's light enough to be moved around, but solid enough not to shake or wobble in operation. There is a very thin ridge though that remains on the edge of the boards where the blade does not extend all the way to the fence.
I have not had an opportunity to utilized my new purchase. However, after reading the reviews and my past experience with Craftsman, I am not concerned with the performance. I do want to say that Sears service is excellent. I had the tool within 3 days of ordering and confirmation. I've never had to worry about this. I am looking forward to getting in the shop and using it.
