Solid top, but not as hard as I thought....
I expected this to be a really solid, hard work surface. I wasn't planning on building up small blocks on the bench so figured this would fit the bill. The top looks great, the finish is thin, and the wood is softer than expected. Glad I plan to do wood work 90+% of the time. Grab the bamboo or stainless top if you're worried about scratches or dents - both of them will hold up better is my guess.

NOT butcherblock material
this is apparently wood from the rubbertree. while this is good sustainable material it is NOT considered butcherblock material. ( traditionally that is woods like sugar leaf, maple, ash) this will be softer and easier to damage than the real things.

Great for the money

Yes, the wood is soft but that should have been expected at this price. There are other options that would be a harder surface for more money. It looked great out of the box....exactly what I expected. This top seems to weight a lot more than 40 lbs although I was able to move it around by myself.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Butcher Block Counter Top

Very good quality top. This item was much cheaper than comparable items at **********. The item looks very good and it will work well as a work surface in my garage. Very sturdy.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Best Butcher Block Bang for your Buck

I was searching for a simple surface to use as a work table, and never thought to look at Sears for one. I had two garage floor cabinets that I wanted to place apart, and have a table surface mounted on them. This 8' butcher block was the perfect length, and is quite substantial in size and weight, so there are no worries about knocking the table around while working on it, even without mounting it to the supporting structure. I placed some furring strips on the top supporting cabinets to let the butcher block breathe, but other than that, it is not really secured to anything. Just the weight along keeps it from moving around. You won't find a butcher block of this size for less anywhere else.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Almost too nice to be a work bench

I am a service writer for a dealership and our tech work benches are butcher block work surfaces and they have been in service for awhile and I thought one would serve me just fine for a weekend warrior. I have never seen one brand new because the ones at work have been in service for some time and I was like WOW!!! when I opened the box. My wife was there and she thought it was going to look like the other 6 foot workbench I ordered a few years ago. She said "Your going to use this out here?? Seriously??" I didn't rate this a 5 because it does scratch very easy, and it doesn't give me the depth that I thought I would have. No fault of the product, I just had a home made bench that had more depth.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
