Unfair
I purchased this product not because I wanted to but I had to. All of the garage door openers available only work on a 7 ft high door where as the standard door here in the South is 8 ft by 10 ft. So, in order to have one work, you must add 30-40% to the price of the opener. So, yes, I had to have the extension which does its intended job correctly. I'm just more bothered by that fact I had to purchase such an expensive extra in order to utilize my original purchase.

8 foot extension
Garages built after 1990s are all more than 8 feet. Sears should not sell somethng less than 7 feet and then tax additional $50 to sell a kit. It is like take it or leave it. I would not have bought it had I known earlier that it needed a kit to increase the height from 7 to 8 or to 9 feet. This is NOT fair. There is no disclosure on the box that it does not fit garages more than 7 feet. You will know only when the installer arrives and tells you that he cannot work with it unless you by a kit. He has to make a 2nd trip. Whos is at fault?

rail was to short

sears don't care to fix this problem the kit needs a extra center sec which if you buy the 10 ft kit you get then you got to cut it to make it work whit the 8 ft chain had the same thing go wrong with my 2 10 ft kits

Overall
8' extension for the Craftsman garage door opener 3.5 HP

I bought the garage door opener (works awesome) and then had to purchase the extension kit for my 8' garage doors. All works very well, very smooth. No issues, Installer gave the Craftsman a thumbs up.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

too expensive

I was forced to purchase this as i have a 8ft garage door. everything fit fine and was good quality, but 49.99 was way too much considering the whole unit was 149.00.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Glad I got it.

The box for the opener stated that the opener is for a 7 foot tall door. So I had to buy this since I have an 8 foot tall door.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

The Craftsman 8' extension didn't work

I bought the extension, the installer arrived and the piece in the box was virtually the same size as the one that it wanted us to replace. A waste of the day for the installer and he and I are baffled by the problem. If anyone has any suggestions as to why it didn't work, please let me know... I now have to return the two kits that I purchased.

you MIGHT need this

I have an 8 foot sectional garage door. After looking at the set up, I think if I would have just installed the original pieces (shorter pole and chain) it would have still worked. The only thing is that the garage door wouldn't fully open (it would be a foot short) which would be ok in my opinion, my car isn't over 7 foot tall anyhow. The main complain I have is the price, i picked up the 3/4 hp opener at a good price of $150. The extention kit cost $50. That's adds an extra 33% to the cost of the opener. Oh well you live and learn.

i agree wiyh mike of upstate sc

i also had to pay the extra $50 to purchase the extension if i wanted to open my door fully. it was a waste of time {had to move the hanging bracket twice, run around finding parts, and disassemble and reassemble whole unit}. it was a waste of money {purchased unit for $130, then another $50 for extension}. now i have an extra rail system i have no use for.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
