A workbench frame worthy of the Craftsman name.

This frame provides the basis for a great workbench.  I purchased the 8' frame (item # 0091494000) and two drawer modules (item # 00914927000) on-line for delivery to my local Sears store.  All items arrived at the store in 5 days just as Sears projected.  The items were packaged very well and there was zero damage.  All necessary hardware was included and the assembly instructions were fairly clear.  Assembly of the three items took about 5 hours.  The fit and finish of the completed workbench frame and drawer modules was perfect.  I have purchased a couple of other Craftsman workbenches over the years (both still in service)... this is by far the best and is worthy of the Craftsman name.

I opted to make the top for this workbench myself rather than purchase any of the options available from Sears.  I used a 2' x 8' piece of 3/4" plywood and topped it with 3/4" tongue and groove oak flooring, then added an edge frame of 1" x 2" oak on the front and sides.  Hand sanding and a Watco Danish Oil finish (medium walnut) provided an outstanding top at half the price of the Sears options.

Bottom line:  This frame provides for an outstanding workbench that is sturdy, functional and great looking.  Fit for a craftsman.

Needs work on the integration with other items
Sorry, nice workbench but your instructions are lacking and this does not integrate well with other tiems. Most notably the 5 drawer side unit and the butcher block top. When using the 8' workbench it tells you to use the brace for support. When installing the drawers, however, they will not work with the extra brace and also will not fit with the extra back support. You get to unwind it all and take them off, leaving questions about rigidity and support, or you get a dremel and cut out notches in the fram so the support for the drawers will fit. You did not so your homework, When installing the butcher block top I pre-drilled the holes exactly as described but when putting the back splash on the corner screws split the top. You should have pre-drilled and put metal inserts into the wood top. Now I have a cracked top and a bench frame that is cut to **** from a dremel.

Who designed this product?

The Directions are all over the place and if you purchase anything to add to this bench do not put on the stiffening pieces that the directions tell you to. The engineers definitely need to go back to the drawing board on this one and all the add ons. Seems to be built pretty cheaply without much thought put into the directions.

Looks aweome, legs do bend easy check packaging..

Made my shop... just 100%. The legs are thin aluminum so you need to watch out that the morons that throw these things around the warehouse dont bend them !. They did, but I didnt take it back, its plyable and I just bent it back. I also plan on getting the shelf and drawer kit which I think will steady it out even more. Stainless steel top looks amazing.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not for rookies or the vertically challenged

I purchased the frame, backwall, and butcher block top -- all of the 8' variety. Assembly took about five hours because the instructions are not as clear as they could be and the illustrations are maddeningly small. I recommend a magnifying glass and some experience in reading mechanical drawings. There are a few times when you will need the help of another person, such as when turning the frame upside down or when lifting the butcher block top. In fact, we could have used a third person during the mounting of the top light assembly. The finished product is very nice and solid. Be aware that the top of the work surface is 42" high. If you are under 5'-10" tall, you might consider getting a box or a stack of Craftsman floor mats to stand on when using this bench.

The frame game

I ordered 3 of these frames to go with the stainless worktops I ordered. It's been a couple of weeks and 2 of them finally showed at the local sears, the third is MIA. I get them home and one of them was crunched in the box. The other had bent parts so I combined the two to make one good frame, I'm taking the other one back. The stampings are very light weight but no worse than you'd find in other stores. They are also very tall at 41 & 1/4" tall and as high as 43" once you attach a worktop to it. Now I get to wait for the 2 frame kits I still need. The store guys were apologetic about the long wait and damage. Sears needs to work on their warehousing and shipping though.

8' Workbench Frame

This bench is made in the U.S. which is one reason why I bought it. Happy to say I am pleased with the ease of assembly and sturdiness. Bought the butcher block top ( made in Vietnam) easy to mount with no problems. About 1 hour for full assembly

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Craftsman 8' Workbench

We recently purchased this workbench from Sears, it was on sale, which was better yet. The quality of this bench is outstanding. It is very sturdy and came with a variety of options. We bought the stainless steel top, black metal pegboard and above lighting system. It was well worth the money spent. I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs a good quality workbench. I have never been disappointed with the Sears Craftsman label and this item is no exception.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Craftsman 8' Workbench Frame - good product but overpriced

good quality but overpriced for what you get. Some reviews say the instructions are hard to interpret. They are not great but it went together pretty easy.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
