I am a weekend warrior when it comes to repairs on my vehicles. Over the years I have purchased snap on, matco, and many other high end tools. These tools are over priced. With the craftsman warranty and quality I cant understand why you would pay 10 times the price in many cases.
I am building a tool set for my little brother, and saw these on sale. I already own the reversible version of these, and was quite pleased to get my little brother a similar set. It wasn't until I had gotten home that I realized these weren't forged in the USA anymore. Sometime after I had bought my set, they have since been offshored to China.
Now be that as it may, they are still excellent tools. And somewhat inexplicably, the individual wrenches are still made in the USA while the polished sets are made in China. (The older, non-polished ratcheting wrench sets were still made in the USA. They are apparently no longer available.)
The only concern I have about these wrenches (aside from country of origin) is that it's possible (though exceedingly rare) to get yourself into a situation where a non-reversible ratcheting wrench can get stuck. If you are loosening a bolt in an enclosed space, there may not be enough space to get the wrench out. with an ordinary (or reversible ratcheting) wrench, you can simply tighten the bolt down a bit to free up some space to remove the wrench. With a non-reversible ratcheting wrench, you can only wrench in one direction for a given orientation. You then need to slide the original wrench down, and use an open ended wrench to tighten the bolt to free the original wrench. It's cumbersome and awkward.
That is why I would recommend the reversible ratcheting version of these wrenches (part # 42405.) In addition to never getting your wrench stuck, you also gain a 15 degree offset to reduce busted knuckles. Also, the reversible ratcheting wrenches are still forged in the USA. They cost a little bit more, but I would (and did) gladly pay for these two features. That's not to say that these wrenches aren't good. They are good. It's just that there are even better wrenches for not a whole lot more. In that sense, I don't see that these wrenches have a good value.

I bought this item right before Christmas because I needed a couple wrenches, especially the 8 mm but, the ratcheting end of the 8mm wrench is not very good, it does not hold well, when I put any pressure on it it strips and does not turn, the nut or bolt. I have not had the opportunity to use the rest of the wrenches nor to return it for exchange yet so I don't know if it is just this wrench.

This is a nice set. The price on sale was good, so bought a metric and an SAE 8 pc set. Has made my life easier for sure with my first set of ratcheting wrenches!! wow! The quality is good, they look nice, good handle length. Went to four stars as the 17mm seems to bind up a bit. I will be bringing it back to my local Sears store, and will see how good they are at replacing it. The rest are wonderful, so I figure its just a random bad one, we will see. I will update my review after I see how well they honor the warranty (especially new replacement on new tool).

They are a little longer that I'd like, but if you're looking to get some good leverage, they might work great for you. Also, I'd like the ratcheting end to be a little thinner profile. The higher end wrenches that Craftsman sells of this style have a direction selection (which I would have liked), they are a bit shorter, and the ratchet housing is a bit thinner allowing you to get into tighter places. Maybe these are thicker so that you can put more torque on them without breaking. A fine wrench, but I would have preferred the other model after using both.

A set with full polish, reversible, ratcheting wrenches would be appreciated, similar to #42422. Ironically, I can buy these from open stock, all made in USA, but not offered as a set, very frustrating. Willing to pay more for USA made, as well. Even better, make them box end reversible on BOTH ends, two different sizes, to save money. Many people buying these probably already have a set of combination wrenches anyway.

So I have my share of high quality tools and ************** quality in my toolbox. They all serve a purpose. I was shocked to see that these craftsman wrenches were made in China and that the quality was not typical Craftsman ( the ratcheting mechanism is actually off center on some of the wrenches). Had I paid near the list price I would have took them back immediately but I got these online for 30 bucks ( cheaper than the Pittsburg Forge set that only had 6 wrenches!!!) They do look to be of very good quality and the walk into Sears and exchange lifetime warranty is piece of mind. I am sure they will last and I recommend at the $30 price, but if you are a tool snob steer away from this set.
